  • One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Bold boysenberry fruit during decant. Some sediment in both the screen and the bottle. Wine was clear; deep crimson bowl lightening to a very slight amber rim. After resting, the bold fruit continued with added tobacco and dark chocolate notes. Perfect balance and a long finish of blackberries. I like older Zinfandels, but this wine exceeded all expectations. It presented much younger than the wines I drank on 11-29-2021 and 10-05-2022. My last bottle and clearly the best of the bunch!

  • My interest in older Zinfandels continues. Thirty-minute decant through a screened and aerating funnel. There was significant sediment captured in the screen. Sour cherry aromas during decant. After resting, wine was clear; deep crimson in bowl lightening to an amber rim with a medium halo. In the glass: sour cherry notes continued with an underpinning of some greenery. In the mouth: sour cherries and cranberries with bright (but not overpowering) acid, some slate and a slight cedary finish. About 45 minutes after decant, the sour cherry aromas left and were replaced with pipe tobacco notes. Likewise, on the palate, the wine smoothed out and the sourness dissipated. Slate and cedar remained. Nice bottle but not quite as nice as the 2008 I had 20 days ago.

  • Terrific. Spicy, long long finish.

  • Wow. Great wine. Decanted thru a strainer and drank over next 2+ hours while preparing dinner and during dinner. Kept evolving, so no detailed notes. Nearly opaque purple-red. Medium+ body. Spice, dark and red fruits kept swirling in and out. For my last bottle, I will take it it seriously with timer and a note pad.

(Outpost Howell Mountain Zinfandel) #4; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-dark; NOSE-not as extracted; more minerality, but still big red fruit; blueberry meets strawberry; a little darker; I like this nose; PALATE-this is a really big and bombastic Zin and kind of fake; it lost me on the gloopy and over-the-top finish; ST-92; GV-87
