Burgundy BBQ (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): I continue to struggle to understand this producer, finding this to also be slightly dirty and a little more advanced than I would expect from 2006.

Summer BBQ (Chicago, IL): Quite earthy and mulchy on the nose, with some slightly stewy fruit. Nebbiolo-like amount of tannins. Coarse and rustic; not my cup of tea.

Holed Up Vs. Hurricane Sandy; 10/30/2012-10/31/2012: Much more expressive than when I tasted this in 2010, but it's still very young. Aromas of cassis, black cherries, tar and hints of game and gravy. The palate is tight and compact, with gritty tannins amd medium acid. Flavors of plums, soil and mineral add serious complexity. Sage and pepper linger on the finish. I'd like to try this again in a year or two.
Ordered off the list at Bastille in Seattle. Decanted about 30 minutes before delivering to the table. Clear garnet red. The nose was a burst of tart cherry and aniseed. Medium to full bodied with excellent intensity. Alone, this showed elegant herbal characteristics along with tart sonata cherry and some good spicy components. Paired up with pate, braised rabbit with morels and fava beans, and roasted chicken with fingerlings and cauliflower veloute, this really began to sing. Red fruit led to black fruit. The morels and the rabbit stock delivered an earthy dimension which is nearly I impossible to relate in words. High acidity and surpirsingly firm tannins make me wish I had some of these in my cellar.
Highly recommended!

Beaune-Themed Wines (Ardeo - Washington, D.C.): dark ruby colored. gorgeous nose of sweet cherries, violets, a farm with sheep, rolling hills, the whole thing. smells like... burgundy, which is why i love burgundy. i can seriously smell the land in this wine. really seductive, dense tannins, but the minerality and acid make it lively. opened up with air to get even more expressive
