France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Floral start with good ripeness for the vintage, showing plenty of apple throughout with good depth and balance. Very good now, this should hold well for close to another decade.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
From magnum. Very reductive, in fact this seemed to get more reductive the longer it was open. Clearly lots of substance and depth behind that reduction, and some people liked this now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Slightly floral with lean orchard fruit and good enough weight. Still fresh enough, but best to enjoy in the next few years while the fruit is still fresh and in the forefront.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Slight reduction to start, which was barely distracting. Rich orchard fruit with slightly sweet spice, this brightens up middle forward with a faint nuttiness, ending with good length, depth, and faint mineral hints, but still dominated by vintage ripeness.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
I brought this magnum tonight, and it showed exactly as I hoped/ expected. Lots of apple and pear throughout with slightly sweet spice and a good dollop of spearmint. Aging slowly and gracefully, some more earth emerged when re-tasted after open an hour+, but this showed wonderful depth and density from beginning to end.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Small glass. Lots here, but this needed plenty of air or more cellar time. Completely inaccessible for now, everything lost behind a firm structural wall, but with lots of density and still lots of potential.
Well spiced start, classically Dujac-ian whole cluster in the forefront without quite taking over. Lots of red fruit, still very fresh, in fact still a little backward. Upside form here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
In horizontal. Red berries here with subtle, woodsy spice and bright, ferrous textures. Good weight, good balance, good now, even if slightly simple for a great vintage 1er Cru.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
In horizontal. The least accessible of the trip and also the most backward. Tannins are front-and-center, fruit is hidden for now, unclear exactly where or when this will be fun, but there is good concentration.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
In horizontal. Ripe black and red cherry with firm tannins are need to soften slightly further, but are not particularly obtrusive. Very good density and length, so I like the potential here; better 2025-2040.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Very brooding and barely interesting when opened, an hour in decanter helped, but not quite enough. Good concentration of black fruits, but a still slightly oaky and certainly still firm, giving it an awkward feel for now. I will hold my remaining bottles in the cellar at least another 5 years and give the wine more air before serving. I think there is a lot fo upside from tonight's showing.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Small glass. Rich, fleshy, and ripe, yet certainly with the structural character of the 2018 vintage to keep it balanced and (nearly) restrained. Good now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Small glass. Wonderfully charming, fully mature red and black cherry with almost as much earth and black truffle. Enough structure to make this more interesting without dominating. Good now, probably even better a few years ago.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Double blind in what turned out to be a 2002 flight. Clear 1er Cru density here. Rich red fruit and nicely spiced, still slightly firm, so not quite perfectly balanced. I identified the vintage range correctly, but thought it from 2000.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Double blind in what turned out to be a 2002 flight. Clean and bright black fruit, I thought this showed 1er Crus concentration, and thought it younger than its actual age. Very good now.
Double blind in what turned out to be a 2002 flight. I was really thrown off here, finding this firm and brooding, and almost drying on its finish. I thought this much younger (2008?) and was found this wine surprisingly and somewhat disappointing.
Tasted double blind. Big, ripe and bold with good combination of richness and maturity. Lots here, lots to enjoy, even if not quite as fresh/ good as the last time tasted last year.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Double blind. Rich, ripe and mostly mature with good depth and density, easily showing enough structure. I thought it Jadot's 1990 Bonnes Mares given what we had previously tasted. My favorite red wine of the evening.

Also very reductive, but some air would have made this easily accessible with orchard fruit clearly coming through in the background.

Small glass. Very Chablis-like, slightly more tart than I would prefer at this level and stage.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
From 3L. I tried to convince myself it was musty, so set aside a glass for an hour, and yes, it was corked.

I continue to struggle to understand this producer, finding this to also be slightly dirty and a little more advanced than I would expect from 2006.
