Drank this with Mrs. TJ and my brother & his partner at Palena. Did not take notes so only informal impressions.
After spilling part of my first glass of this, I settled in to try this vino that I got from a fellow VC dude (gratis!). He said it probably needed to be drunk so I was up to the job. I really had no idea what to expect.
We'd had a Loring Brousseau right before this, and we should have perhaps done this the other way around. This was a much more restrained/refined wine showing lots of civillity. But it delivered a rather well integrated attack on the palate. Think of KillerB and you having a conversation in which you disagree. He'll tear you apart while still making you feel friendly. That must be a British gene. ;-p
Seriously, this was delicious, with very nicely structured fruit that tended to show much better near the end of the bottle (we did not decant but the bottle had been open for about two hours). The taste reminded me of slightly dried dark brambly fruit, maybe that which you'd picked a few days ago, but had not eaten yet, interlaced with a nice powdered dirt (think baseball diamond dirt) sense as well. I was a little worried because it initially had a bit of a mustiness about it, but it blew off relatively quickly. Nice effort, but I think overshadowed by the Lorings gushing fruit.
This was a nice step in my continuation of my exploration of Italian wine. Grazie, Jones!

Really liked this. Delicious flavors. 88. Opened alongside 1994 Ornelaia and was better!
