  • Not detailed notes, but I really enjoyed this. Struck me as on the modern side, with a hint of sweetness on the palate. Throws a fair amount of sediment, so standing up a couple days early wouldn't be a bad idea.

  • Black cherry, still a bit brooding with firm tannins on finish. I'd drink now given the remaining fruit to tannin ratio.

  • Cherries, walnuts, Nebbiolo florals. I believe there is some old oak contact here. A food wine to be sure, the tannins in my bottle were appropriate and in balance with the fruit. Plan a menu with some pasta and the tannins smooth out even more. No need to panic drink, the fruit is strong.

  • Killer bottle of Nebbiolo. Darker type of fruit profile yet very bright and lively as well. Most notable was the palate here, where the wine was accessible but yet quite tannic and dry, with a great spice note.

  • On the nose, high note red fruit (cherry), licorice, tobacco and a touch of earthy funk in the background that wafts in and out in terms of prominence. Quite aromatic, and as a complete package comes across as nicely perfumed.

On the palate, the fruit is quite dense, in a good way. No surprise, the tannins are quite prominent here but even at this early stage, it's still approachable given the strength of the fruit.

I wish I had a lot more of this, especially at the $25 purchase price I picked these up for. I think another 5 years and this is going to be stunning. 93 points as a conservative estimate as to my guess at how this will perform in 2018.

(Ronchi Barbaresco) #1; COLOR-medium; NOSE-undeniable cherry licorice; good bright red fruit; cherry juice action; mint action on the back-end; hint of tobacco; PALATE-good fruit; quite nice; big tannins; really dry; this is a Big Boy; heavy cigar-like flavors; dark cherries; dark black currant; really ripe fruit; DRY (your mouth is Driz-eye); very solid; quite approachable, but very youthful; black tea and clove on the back-end that is quite remarkable; I'm in love with this wine; SPECTACULAR; WS-92; GV-92
