  • Drakk til elg Entrecôte, dekantert 2 timer før. Grei math men litt voldsomt selv til elg.

  • Even better after breathing. Cigar and tar on the nose with a slight spice like cloves. Currant on the palette. Went great with bbq steak

  • Dark, smooth and very harmonic in the mouth. Noise was on the mature side and the aftertaste had a great influence of old cellar/leather. There where still some acid left that tackled the food. I think that it had reached it top.

  • Alc: 13%; Blend of 60% CS; 25% Merlot; 15% CF; Super deep black red through to rim.
Enticing bouquet of tobacco, mocha, dark chocolate, ripe forest fruits, dried morello cherries and hint of raisin. Seemed riper than th 13% alcohol. As the wine opened there is more umami elements with baking spices, damson, fig and date.
A full-throated wine with super-ripe almost overripe fruit: raisin, toasted spices, and baked red & black fruits join chocolate and coffee.
An fine, cocoa powder texture, the wine reflects the hotter 2003 vintage despite the 13% alcohol.
Complex, there is a touch, nothing more, of acidity and a long finish. Whilst the wine is well put together it feels very New world like with quite a sweet mid-palate packed with baking spices, dense yet ultimately sweet tannins and fruit that is dried or overripe, without that telltale Italian acid bite (I would struggle to get origin if served blind!) The wine finishes with more raisin, date, baked fruits and soy and worn leather.

  • I had tasted this at a Frescobaldi wine bar in Florence years ago but never sought it out back here stateside. I've seen a few bottles languish on the shelves for years in the Italian section of my local wine store and when I saw the "markdown" ticket I grabbed a bottle.
Well the wine was opened and the first sip was brooding and tannic so into the decanter for this guy. Was grilling prime NY Strips (from Costco at a great price BTW) so I felt this would be a great match.
The wine was a very true expression of fine left bank Bordeaux with a deep, dark crimson color, cigar box and leather on the nose, dried fruit on the palate and bold tannins that cut thru the steak. At 9pm when we savored the last glass it was really in full bloom with an expressive nose and long finish. As remarkable as some of the best French Bordeaux that we've had.
This seemed like it could go for years and shows that you can age some wines at room temperature, as this had been on the retail shelf for 9 years or so, yet it was drinking very well.
p.s. off to the retailer to see if they have any more left!
