  • Popped and poured. Complex mix of aromas includes vanilla, stone fruit, apricot pit. Peach flavor dominates. Slightly bitter finish.

Firm backbone, some complexity, outstanding mouthfeel which somehow manages to be both unctuous and austere. Excellent and in its prime.

  • All dry Koehler-Ruprechts (Dado Restaurant Düsseldorf): Drinking all Auslese trocken R and RR, some Sptätlese trocken und Kabinett trocken from Koehler-Ruprecht.

It was an amazing evening. Very special wines. For many the best dry German Rieslings.

I rated this time generally lower than most of the other 12 participants. For some wines just ratings or short DN.

  • Pretty regular Riesling yellow. The nose was a bit stinky, a bit sauerkrauty and showed 100% typical and indefinable KR-Riesling-Characteristics! So far so bad! I even got bitterness and lactic impressions. Cork problems? I don’t really know! On the third day not as problematic as on the second day (prime consumption day). The KR’s taste was pretty powerful, creamy, and slightly bitter, showed for KR Rieslings typical fruit flavours, but had not enough of density and complexity. Almost a bit displeasingly short finish! Sorry! Surely more than just drinkable, but not a lot! Perhaps it was a defect!?!

  • What an excellent Saumagen Riesling from a difficult vintage from Koehler-Ruprecht. The 2006 has a pale light yellow colour, surprisingly light for a dry Auslese at age 4. The nose first has the typical Koehler Ruprecht aroma: a tad soapy and lots of citrus fruits (lemons, grapefruits). This is accompanied by tahiti vanilla and some peach. On the palate, this is round, has a remarkable acidity (maybe too much for people who have an aversity towards acidity) and gets better by the hour. This is awesome.
