Historical Bodegas Bilbainas Tasting Event (plus dinner at La Piperna) (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): My entire fault. This bottle might be open a hour before to be served. I knew that and I didn't it. Shame on me. Typically Syrah in colour, at first showed out-of-the-limits on the nose with aromas of black olives can turned into lovely violets and garrige smells. Same process on the palate. From harsh and empty to harmonic and savoury. The best drink, the last one.

Like the last bottle, I thought this was on its way out when I first opened it - it was pretty flabby and tired. After a couple of hours, nice red fruit, spice, and a hint of pepper came through. I wish I had more.

Medium bright red. V faint bricking. Strawbs and cherries on the nose with just a little smoke. Taste is fairly thin but pleasant, with red fruit and not a lot else. Tannins are soft, and acidity is pretty balanced. Fairly fragile over all and feels faded (as it should be!). Always sad to find a wine on its way down... Still hanging in there, just.

Wine was still tight after opening. Decanted and started to come through. Lots of meat and black pepper on the nose. Tasted bland at first but this is definitely a food wine with the high acidity. With some cheese and meats, a whole new wine. Lots of pure dark fruit and pepper. A nice St. Joseph that was easy to drink. Color had some light red hue instead of dark purple so maybe some Grenache was added?
