Tasted the 04, 97 and 89 vintages recently. The 97 offered the most expressive nose. I enjoyed the rustic smokey, earthy elements blended with a bit of sweet fruit. I don't see this getting better. I plan to drink my bottles over the next few years.
I think the 89 is the better wine but will continue to benefit from a few more years of aging.

Ghost of Clos Vougeot: Terrific nose, highly expressive and earthy with dried florals, toasty coffee notes, sweet red cherry, smoky meats. Some wild animal in here. Palate is sweet red cherry, not too thin but not that deep either. The palate doesn’t match the great promise of the bouquet. Bottles directly from the domaine.

"Simple" Friday Dinner (Imperial Treasure, Great World City): An excellent, excellent bottle of wine. Just a brilliant aromatics on the nose with this - funky, muddy earth, stewed black tea, rich dark cherry scents, Angelica root, mineral, spice, bramble, all tumbling out in a lovely perfumed melange of great depth and complexity. Palate was absolutely on point as well, drinking at the very peak of its powers. Cool, bit deep tones of rich, sappy cherries, orange notes, spice, umami - all in a complete, balanced package. Finish was long and sappy, with a long pull of cherries and more spice. Absolutely lovely.
