  • Medium red colour, slightly lighter at the edges. Sweet, ripe cherries and strawberries in the nose, together with some barnyard, compost and floral aromas, and a hint of mint, spices and oak. Medium bodied, cherries and cranberries on the palate, rather good fruit concentration, good acidity with just a hint of bitterness, and light-to-medium tannins with a slightly rustic edge to them. Not at all bad in terms of fruit concentration, but I have too mark it down slightly for its rustic tannin structure, although that's not too uncommon in wines from the southern outskirts of Côte de Beaune. I've tried this wine at least two times before. This time around, I find some developed aromas that weren't there when I tried it in 2009, but it is also less floral. Definitely approachable now, but it has the acidity to last many more years (5-10) for those who prefer more mature Burgundy aromas with mellowed tannins.

  • – Popped and Poured –
    – Tasted non-blind over 5 Days –

NOSE: loads of spice (incense) on Day 1, which eventually turns to a softer floral perfume scent by Day 5; clear red fruits – strawberry and raspberry on Day 1; cranberry on Day 5; soft Pinot funk; moderately expressive; nice.

BODY: striking garnet-purple color (think: eggplant) of light to medium-light depth; light to medium-light bodied.

TASTE: acidic and tannic on Day 1 ... better integrated by Day 5; flavors of spice and blueberry; light red fruits, too; medium finish (35-45 sec.); touch of cigar wrapper; the 13% alc. is not noticeable; somewhat thin; a bit tart on Day 5. This certainly isn’t mind-blowing ... some might even hesitate to call it “good,” but this is a pleasant and simple version of exactly what I’m looking for in a Pinot. I did prefer the ‘05 vintage of this bottling. Drink over short term.

  • Some gentle spice, earth and wood on the nose. Light-bodied, with red fruits tending toward the tart end of the spectrum. Dry and tight on the palate, with a good dose of tannins that occasionally border on astringent on the finish. Not a lot of fruit coursing through it...it's there, but reserved. Still, there is reasonable depth and persistence despite the lighter style.

  • Nice ruby color, medium nose with red currant and some white pepper and a touch of woodiness. Pleasant. The pallet is a bit disappointing though. Dry, low acid, medium to high and lingering tannins without much fruit, in fact a bit flabby and empty on the mid and ending pallet. Cousin Phillips that I tasted a month or so ago was quite memorable, and I will go there again. I still have a Chardonnay from Bruno to try.
