UWS 2011-01 (@ JB): First impression is green and vegetal, fennel, followed by tropical flavors like pineapple. Good acidity, pleasant dose of oak. Full bodied and also elegant. Excellent wine.

Straw and fall aromas combine with a sweet floral quality; still seems to be holding something back; palate is dense and almost chewy for a white with nice definition and acidity, though it is all upper register and seems to be lacking something underpinning the flavors to take this to the next level; a bitter, burnt sugar note dominates the palate over a high-toned citrus peel tartness.

(Salwey Grauburgunder Oberrottweiler Henkenberg Pinot Gris Grosses Gewachs) This had a dynamite and very complex nose. This is always one of my favorite Grauburgunders in all of Germany. The nose was ripe and slightly candied but in a good, confectionary way. Citrus and maramalade scents eased you into the lovely pillow of minerality. The palette was elegant, concentrated and ripe with a great mouthfeel and a nervy acidity. Really pure wine. Lovely complex citrus fruit on the finish with a sprinkle of stony minerality.

Quite Burgundian in its approach - with a great texture and intense aromas. Loved it.
