Opened with vegetable lasagna. Made from Estrella clone Syrah. This pours very dark, still fairly primary looking. Voluptuous nose of sour cherry, ripe raspberry, currant. Full bodied, still showing ripe full spicy fruit on a well structured frame. Jammy, tart and extracted, but at only 13.5% this is very impressive at 13 years out and with enough acidity to give it lift. Certainly at peak, but not overly so. On day two this has fleshed out into a jam packed monster, retaining youthful qualities without being flabby. The right balance between sweet and sour, thick and acidic. A splendid showing at this age.

Very hot, oak on the nose. Unbalanced, yet the one redeeming quality is the fruit and the terroir. Still drinking decent for its age, but I'd pass on this wine just b/c it is so HOT.

Tasted at the Vintage Wines, Ltd. wine bar. Bright disc. Opaque black/purple robe with purple rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense spice box and black pepper aromas. The attack is hot and the mid-palate is hollow, picking up at the end with a spicy short finish. Unimpressive, especially for the price.

Could have been special, but my bottle was flawed.
