  • This wine had plenty of life left. The fruit is still present, balanced by a lovely acidity. Hard to believe it was 25 years old

  • Red brown brick color. The nose was a bit unyielding at first, but with 20-30 minutes of air it revealed some red fruits and leather. Definitely showing tertiary aromas and flavors: tar, black olive, tea bag, leather, hint of eucalyptus. The tannins are still very present but not overpowering. The aromatics did blossom over 30 min but the fruit also evolved and then started fading. This is an enjoyable wine, but it should be consumed with focus and attention over a relatively short time <2 hours, as I suspect tasters might “miss” some of the evolving show it has to offer if they are otherwise distracted.

  • This was a beautiful wine to sip on its own and as a perfect pairing with a Piemontese risotto dish containing beans and salami with a side of sautéed escarole.

Other recent TNs tell the story well, so I won't ramble on this TN except to say that though it shows tertiary notes this still shows plenty of pretty fruit and is lively. It just went down so easily that it was halfway through the last glass that I realized it was getting better with air. A decant would have been wise on this nearly quarter-century old wine! Very elegant, classy.

Note that I only took possession of this bottle a year ago with the retailer claiming it had the "finest/freshest original provenance available". It seems that was the case. Other bottles out there might be very advanced in development even if stored well, but not ideally.

  • Drinking great. Earthy tar floral. Fruit is fading but gaining complexity. I think it will peak from tertiary flavors in another 5 yr but drinking great right now

  • Opened and poured. Beautiful nose that shows its age, with coffee, cloves, leather, licorice. Comes together on the front of the palate, a bit more fruit showing, and a length that, while not powerful, lasts a good couple of minutes.
