  This has moved into its retirement years with plenty of grace; the fruit and aromas still able to offer a gently nuanced but honorable expression of the grape. Medium-bodied, well-lifted, with attractive tertiary character that had plenty of people tipping their hat to a job well done. One of the surprises of the night, with a few years of modestly fruited drinking still ahead.
  
  Slow-O 2 hours, served non-blind. 86% Zin, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Barbera

  Here is a big blustery, well-extracted Syrah that is a long way from being polished, but its youthful lack of refinement and all too plentiful ragged edges are more than compensated for by a very deep center of varietal fruit. Its suggestions of chocolate, leather, hardwoods, and game point the way to complexity to come with bottle aging.
