The 1995 Mongeard Mugneret is at a fine drinking age today. Well balanced profile of fresh mixed fruits and earthy/ mushroomy characteristics. Medium bodied with smooth and resolved tannins. Served blind from a magnum and definitely tasted a bit younger than 1995. (88/100)

Dinner with Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero): The best of the pinots tonight. This Echezeaux was still young but had very good density and complexity. The tannins are smoothing and the acidity provides the check for the deep rich fruit and earthiness that is beginning to emerge. A stinkiness on the nose that gave way to a blend of cherry and sarsaparilla (rootbeer) root.
