The Lyon 10 Year Tasting: 2008 Oregon Pinot Noir (Lyon Den): From magnum and actually the only OPN decanted (so that I could get some into a 750 for blind pouring). May not have helped this wine hold up! This bottle was from the winery 4/18, so great provenance. Over the hill but interesting cherry, tea, rose hips, and 'shroom notes. Brown and dead on day 2.

Johns bottle. Canned cherries, sandalwood, cocoa. Some H2S frunkiness that put off some tasters, though I didn't mind it. Still some tannins, surprisingly; and the wine lasted well in the glass. Impressive, especially for a passively stored bottle.

Good fruit and earthy mature combination but the structure is too dominent and prominent vs that level of fruit and spice. Softened a little after two hours open, but not enough.

Savory, leather, dark fruit and earth on the nose which continues onto the palate. No signs of browning - still a deep dark color. Not really for lovers of mature fruit since its pretty hard to find much at this point - its really evolved into something more earthy. The overall balance is still fine which makes this wine enjoyable but if I did not know it was an old Pinot I might have actually guessed something else!

From a magnum. Probably five to seven years past peak, and still showing a touch of intrigue.
