My friend found an old bottle buried in his cellar. This wine was very good, had a nice color, a nose of an aged northern rhone and in no way tasted over the hill. In fact, it could still age more. Laura was shocked when I told her it was a 2003. These wines can and should be aged. A hint of grip left on the finish.

This wine continues to age well having an almost "masculine" style in spite of flowers in the nose. Comes on strong with intense and precise flavors. I'll keep the next bottle for a while.

Tasted December 14, 2007. Opened and served immediately. Nose of rich tropical fruits, wet stones, parrafin and luscious yellow fruits. Rich and juicy flavors of sweet yellow fruits and a solid base minerality. Good acidity and body. This wine has just gotten better and better with time in bottle. Sadly my last one. I should of held onto this one and drank the 2004 first. Drink or hold.

Lunch with Shane Finley, Shane Syrahs and Spell Pinots (Restaurant Eloise, Sebastopol, California): Medium butter yellow color; herbal, floral, peach nose; somewhat dense, tart pienapple, mineral, tangy white fruit palate; medium-plus finish
