  • Perfectly composed. Had over 4 hours out of a Zalto Burgundy glass and couldn’t ask for more.

A nicely composed bouquet of baked black fruits, potpourri, cement and fresh tarragon greet the nose.

Super soft palate entry with powdery tannins, an iron spine and lingering acidity.

Fruit notes are present on the palate but they are just quietly showing their wares in a subdued fashion, while the herbal notes begin to shoulder them aside and insist on being recognized, while against gasp of white pepper tries to surface at the finish.

Four hours in, the wine remains composed and quietly insistent. No trendy flash in the pan, this wine was made for the long haul and the attention to detail paid back in 1990 is continually realized today.

A big thanks to Ed at E&R wine in Portland, OR for seeding his shop with bottles from his personal cellar.

  • Licoricey nose. Very hollow on the palate, yet still aggressively tannic. Sharp and tart.

  • 1990 Brunello and Chianti Riserva (Palo Alto): Harsh, medicinal note on nose. Nice mouthfeel with snappy sour cherry and good acid. Still some tannins, but more resolved than (A). With time, the nose clears up and gains a sweet note and the palate grows more savory and herbal. Long finish. One of my favorites here. My 3/7, group's 2/7. (Tasted blind)
