Deep beet-red color. Full bodied. Soft, sweet nose with roses and cinnamon. On the palate, totally unexpected from the aroma: rustic and coarse; lots of black fruits, cloves, and dust. Giving it an hour or two helps; it does soften the hard edges and the result is a sturdy, satisfying wine that goes well with food.

Got some dried roses and cranberry on the nose. Palate left a lot to be desired. Had only minimal fruit with some cedar and rose petals..nothing complex, nothing deep.

Thursday Night Grab Bag (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): gaglioppo, greco negro and other crazy italian grapes. dark color. the palate shows earth and pepper. tangy on the palate, but something about the bitterness of this puts me off a bit. there's some nice coffee and sour cherry flavors.

This wine tastes young but it's still very interesting. It has a nose of floral feminine perfume. At first all I could taste were ripe cherries, that quickly led into figs, sage, caramel, and a little smoke. It has a short but pleasing herby perfume and fruit finish. A very interesting wine for the price.

Really engaging stuff. Lifted black-cherry liqueur on the attack, followed by waves of contrasting flavors, including licorice, earth and herbs. Could probably benefit from some cellar time. A great value.
