  • Cherry, graphite, minerality. Went well with a think grass fed steak and some arugula. A nice wine drinking well now. Spent $40 on it in 2011. Not sure it was worth the cellaring and bottle expense. But good wine and would buy again (though maybe drink without cellaring).

  • Dark garnet red, complex bouquet of ripe berries, cherries and some earthy tones. On the palate multi-layered, good structure, mature, but still lively acidity, silky tannins. A very good Lagrein, perfect now and over the next 2-3 years.

  • Unblended Lagrein wine – an indigenous grape-varietal found only in the region around the city of Bozen (South-Tyrol) –, made by the Benedictine monks of the Muri-Gries Monastery (originally from the Swiss town of Muri / Aargau canton). The wine was aged for 22 months in barriques. Decanting time: two hours. Deep black-ruby colored wine with a cherry rim and a rich bouquet of ripe berry fruit and spices, mingled with tones of graphite, smoke and sandalwood. The palate shows an ample, full-bodied wine, with ripe plum and cherry fruit, evident but not overpowering tannins, supported by a good mineral acidity. Warm aftertaste with some balsamic notes. Already well drinkable now, but will reward cellaring during another 2-3 years.

    100 percent Lagrein-wijn – een autochtone Zuid-Tiroolse druivensoort uit de streek rondom de stad Bozen – geproduceerd door de Benedictijnenmonniken van het beroemde klooster Muri-Gries (oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit het Zwitserse stadje Muri, kanton Aargau). De wijn verbleef 22 maanden op barriques. Decanteertijd: twee uur. Intense, donkere robijnrode kleur met een kersrode rand en een sterk bouquet van rijp bessenfruit en kruiden, vermengd met wat rokerige tonen en een vleugje grafiet en sandelhout. Smaak: een rijke, krachtige wijn, met overvloedig fruit van pruimen en kersen, stevige maar beschaafde tannines, dit alles gedragen door een degelijke minerale aciditeit. Hartige afdronk met wat balsamische elementen. Al vrij goed drinkbaar, maar zal er in de komende 2-3 jaren allicht nog op vooruitgaan.
