Three hours decant - just about right (for this bottle, at least). Showing just a little better than our previous bottle earlier in the year - a bit more balanced aromatically and on the palate, and just a touch more mid-palate sweetness to counter the assertive tannins that still arrive on the finish. In another five years, this is going to be amazing. The question is whether I allow our remaining bottles to remain untouched for that period of time. Knowing me, not likely. What a wine.

Sangiovese or Nebbiolo theme dinner at Solo. Tasted blind. Drank in Spiegelau Definition Bordeaux. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tar, fragrant incense, smoke, dark black fruits. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), sleek high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of smoke + tar, dark spices, black fruits - black plums, black cherries, emerging fresh earth. Big long finish. Very good quality. Big black bold style. Though I wasn't thinking of Giacosa style at all.

8 years later and this has really blossomed. Fantastic balance, depth and elegance on a velvety palate. Monster finish.
