Moderate nose of dark cooked fruit, leather, alcohol. Very dense color with evident bricking. Dark fruit, medium - flat tannins, flabby, short somewhat unpleasant finish. Tasted alone and with steak and mushroom risotto. Food pairing improved overall impression of wine.
Saved .25 bottle for three days. Significant transformation. Lost flabby, fat fruit. Gained spice, tobacco, leather, mid-palate complexity, still showed high alcohol, but with somewhat more refined and balanced tannins and a slightly longer finish. Way more enjoyable at this stage. Wine is clearly beyond its apogee, but substantial decanting will justify patience. Rating based on final tasting.

Far berries on the nose. Subtle yet sweet. Soft tannins, velvet on the palate. Very quick almost non existent finish but still very good for QPR. For the money I really love it. I have a few bottles of the plumpjack merlot & this is not too far off & it's a quarter of the price.
