  • This one needed a couple of hours to wake up. And it sure did. The tartness is present at in many 08-burgundies. In addition there is elegance, freshness, concentration and lots of charm. Most quality producers made 08's which can age well, and this is no exception. The Chambolle-style shines through with ethereal and floral notes. Its a french ballet-dancer tip-toeing around the taste-experience with light steps. Wonderful!

  • Seemed advanced for a 08 - showing secondary characteristics. Really good.

  • Consumed over two days.
Impressions on the first day: Very rich premier cru, larger than what I can recall of the previous bottle I had of this vintage. Still open and accessible, has not shut down. It almost feels too rich coming from 2008, this is more like a 2006 or 2009.
    Day 2:
Ah, the nose has improved a lot - wide open and far more delicate than the day before. It has the correct nose of a good chambolle 1er cru, as it should. On the palate it is still quite intense and has huge concentration, and perhaps too much tannins for early drinking. No signs of shutting down yet. 91++

  • Burgundy tasting (The American Club, Hong Kong): Lovely gamey smell - savoury, meaty. Smooth but little intensity on palate. Not very long.

  • Smells like heaven! Soft velvety fruit! Some greenness comes crawling into the nose approx 10-15 minutes after opening, but it blows off again after an hour. Squeaky clean fresh fruit on the palate. Perhaps it feels a bit raw and young at first. A bit unbalanced. But then after an hour or two the wine developes into a study in elegance and perfectly balanced Chambolle-fruit. The only thing is that it seems to be village quality, not premier cru...

But I don't care! If I could drink this kind of wine every day, I would be a happy wino!
