  • Henri Jayer Dinner (Ming San's): A superlative Bourgogne. Served as a blind joker, we were all puzzling whether this was an unusually good village or a solid 1er Cru. It had a fascinating nose, still touched with a bit more toasty woody oak then I would normally like, with notes of meaty, earth funkiness, and a good dose of dark cherries and plums - it was quite an arresting bouquet. The palate was rich and ripe, and certainly a bit glycerol enriched, but it somehow carried all that richness well, with very lush mouthfulling flavours of, blueberry fruit that were at once very sappy, but also still bright and lively, with a good touch of acidity woven through the seams of the wine. It did lean out towards a bittersweet ending, with a hint of bramble at the finish, but this was nevertheless a really, really solid Bourgogne at 27 years of age.
