Sturdy and powerful, good fruit, deep colour, earthy and spicy character, good weight but lacks some finesse and charm even though there are some ethereal topnotes, the tannins are a bit rigid, dried cherry on the finish.

David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): Light and bright mid ruby. Nicely fresh. Finely grippy tannins. This is surprisingly good and quite attractive. Solid ***

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): Oaky nose, forest floor some very subtle Bakewell notes. Later some freshly sliced mushroom. Beyond these aromas which dominate the nose also has a sweet / umami thing going on at the intersection of Worcestershire sauce and HP sauce. Palate a little tight. Decent.
