  • Arguably a fruit bomb? Yes. But oh so elegant and rich. Stewed stone fruits, cassis, blackberry jam. All there. Earth, leather, moss and other forest offerings on the nose too. Firm tannins and higher alcohol work together seamlessly. So well done. Give it some air to breathe for a bit beforehand.
    Wish I had another bottle.

  • As mentioned in my last tasting note, 4 hours wasn't enough time to shake the fruit loose from the tannin's grip, so this time I gave this magnum 7 hours open in the bottle, and what an improvement! By the second day, it showed even more balance. Still a huge structure going on, but more air time revealed intense dark fruit, bitter chocolate, asphalt, stone, and spices, enough now to match the huge structure. My bad being impatient in the previous outing. Apparently magnums can act differently than 750 ml bottles with regards to air and fruit intensity/longevity. This magnum holds a powerful, full wine deserving of an additional rating point, maybe two. At this time, decant, decant, decant, like.

  • A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah and Malbec, I found the wine from this magnum dense and full bodied, indeed, but with an earthiness and structure that overshadowed the fruit. The decanter couldn't shake all of the fruit loose, even after 4 hours. The somewhat reticent fruit revealed nicely complex dark berry and spicy layers from the nose right on through the lengthy finish, and while the decade-old tannins have softened, possibly so has the fruit. It's a well-made wine that I enjoyed drinking... and with a few more in the cellar, maybe it's time to drink up.

  • love Delectus and the Cuvee Julia series but this wasn't one of my favorites

  • Over the top alcohol (16.5 abv) and concentration. Plenty of fruit balanced against high acidity and oak. This almost drank like a port.
With all that said, it is a hedonistic pleasure.
