Tasting and dinner with old wines from Kloster Eberbach (Kloster Eberbach, Rheingau): Golden colour. Nose with dried yellow fruit, honey, some herbaceous notes and spice, mint, mineral. An elegant nose; the most elegant of this flight of four 1983 Eiswein. The palate is very sweet, with honey, dried fruit including apricots, citrus, very great concentration of fruit, spice, high acidity, and a fresh aftertaste. 94 p

brown in the glass, like brandy but lighter. onset is front-of-the-mouth sweet. it then coats the tongue with sugar that evolves to a hint of acidity when swallowed--a very nice balance. long finish that is lightly sweet but clean. not cloying. There's a cloud of petrol evident throughout that prevents this from being fantastic. still very enjoyable.

Dinner by Sebastian Lühr * with "Versteigerungsspitzen & Schatzkammerweine" (Rheingau Gourmet & Wein Festival, Kloster Eberbach): Fabulous peachy fruit, sweet and liquorous like Ziegler Weinbergspfirsich liqueur; on the palate deliciously sweet and intense, with amazing acidity and length. A great Eiswein, the Eiswein of the night.
