  • this bottle comes from an oddball stash of a dozen or so wines squirreled away under the sink with other earthquake supplies. Opened to help the lasagne suace, but hey, a little sip, this is surprisingly good stuff.
nose- cocoa, black pepper, a hint of herbal aromas. this smells like a cab
mouth - intense berry, fig, raisin, and cocoa as the flavors slowly seem more and more ripe progressing to the midpalate and back end. very dry broad tannins on the finish. A touch of sweetness. This hints at being a port. For a random wine to have just stumbled upon, it's quite remarkable and rich, and a zin to boot, which is not at all my preferred varietal. Labeled at 14.9%, the alcohol can be sensed on the aftertaste, which would be my main criticism of this wine (and varietal). Basically at less than 10 bucks, if you can find this caliber of a bottle to stock away for ten years (and mine stored more or less in a closet), you can drink very good quality wine (of this style) for relatively cheap. About as good as zin gets in my opinion.

  • Tried multiple bottles over 5 days, with a group and alone, with food (Filet Mignon, grilled veggies; Tortilla chips, guac, and sheeps milk cheese).
Nose and taste feel like a somewhat weak Joseph Swan. Nothing wrong with that, but the finish is minimal, the nose lacks significant layering, and the taste is not as complex as the swan ( or many others)
Drink now, this has nowhere to go. But a nice value for the money ($9.49) My score considers the value of this one.

  • Great color. Opened nicely with complex tastes and a clean finish. GV for a $10 wine.
