  • Popped and poured from a sound bottle. Barely drinkable on the first night. Lots of heat and flabbiness. Decanted for a couple hours, which helped dissipate the heat and open up some fruit. Stored for a few days at 55 degrees, which helped further (candied mellon, apricot, and floral notes) but not to the point of being all that tasty. I haven't had much luck with aged Viognier and prefer to drink them much younger.

  • This does not look like a 14 year old wine - it is very light yellowy-gold. Nose has herbs and sweet spice but little in the way of obvious fruits. Served at 13 degrees + this started to express more as air got to it. If you know it is viognier you can pick up peaches and other viognier cues, but it is the texture and concentration that holds the mind. It is long and beautifully balanced. A superb wine that I had not expected to hold up so well for so long. Long live Grillet!

  • Some exciting wines...some significant dissapointments (Waltham, MA): Color: pale yellow
Smell: show-stopping scents of tropical fruits, honeycomb, and floral notes that are almost perfumed they are so beautiful.
Taste: this was a HUGE disappointment! Now open almost 14 hours and some subtle favors of lemon and pie crust with a hint of banana and meringue linger.
Overall: to say I've never had a Viognier like this is absolutely true...but this was just such a big disappointment on the palate that I was crushed. If the palate is ever as complex as the nose, I'd be in love! I rated this "very good" because the nose was so complex that I'm still just sitting here smelling it...if not for the nose this would just be a "good" wine

  • Wine battle 2 (Niels' place): Light yellow. Light and fruity nose with some vegetables, a good deal of acid. Medium bodied with a long aftertaste of toffee. Well delienated with good acid.
