Retail $50. I bought this wine way back in 2012, which means it was one of the wines that made the 1500 mile (or so) journey from Philadelphia to Houston. What does that get you? Not a whole heckuva lot. On the nose? This wine is a tad stewed, along with quite dark red fruit (plum, blackberry, cassis). The palate is characterized by said stewed fruit, but also by considerable acidity, a significant weight, and more than extant tannins. In fact, if I were to base the assessment of this wine solely on the tannin structure, I would assert that it is still quite young. But, alas, the other elements of the wine suggest, no dictate, that it is past its prime. Still? I would classify this as Excellent, but certainly "drink now."
Glad I held on to this. Ten years after my last note, which was not so complementary, this wine wine has improved. Very Bordeaux like--earthy with some light berry fruits and herbs, but nicely balanced and a bit of structure, but still rustic. Enjoyable.

Popped and vinturi'd. Initial nose of cedar, coffee aromas stand out. A rustic, mountain wine are thoughts that come to mind right away. Medium bodied w/flavors of dark fruits, and a lean, tannic profile. Left this in the bottle for 4 hours, and now the wine has opened up somewhat, tart raspberry flavors, along w/the cedar and oak. The finish lingers for a bit, w/some layers of flavor, mocha and coffee stand out. I think this wine will last for 7-8 more years, but don't see this improving. A cool weather cab, rustic and untamed...interesting to us city folk, but lacking the classic richness, texture and depth of a classic cabernet. 95% cab sauvignon, 2.5% merlot and 2.5% cab franc. Score this one 86 on the uniqueness of the terrior and associated flavor profile. Could be a little generous here...
