A bottle with a good level and clearly in good condition - from The Drop in Coal Drops Yard, London. I remember drinking this very wine from 1982 onwards when I first becoming interested in wine. Faded, gentle, lovely and still long.....................

This last bottle was terrific, fresh and fruity and harmoniously tart, opened about an hour before dinner. Enjoyed with leftover sousvide prime strip steaks and spinach/cheese ravioli.

Tasting great but will likely decline soon. Most of what this has to offer has either peaked or has started to pass. Despite that, it still has a lot going on. Took about 20 minutes to start to open up.
Tobacco, ashtray, subtle bright cherry, tar, a little barnyard. Boatloads of acid on the pallet, but it's beginning to get a bit citrus so it's time to drink. Really well structured old wine that's ready to drink. Have a feeling it was better a year ago... but it's hard to imagine it much better than it is now.

Red fruit (cherry), slight vanilla, earth, tobacco, spice. Nice tart fruit. Strong acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

Coconut, vanilla, soft and round, a typical lively Rioja built for the long haul. Very good.
