  • Socially Distanced Birthday Dinner with Diverse Wines from 1955 (An outdoor terrace in California): Deep yellow/gold. Lightly maderized nose. Much less of a sherry impression in the mouth. In fact, pear fruit and sweet vanillin, wonderful texture and balance. My experience with white Burgundy of this age is, well, nil, but I think that this was giving much more than one could reasonably expect. Excellent for what it is at this age rather than get caught up with what it isn't.

  • Not bad for apple cider but while still alive, it’s just too simple for an old mature Burgundy. At first, amazingly pale, then evolved into medium yellow gold suitable for age. Decent aroma, bruised apple, hint of cayenne or turmeric. Fairly intense on the palate too, with flavors as the aroma suggests. I sort of like it but it gets tiring quickly and the bottle had a lot left at the end of the night.

  • Ex-cellar Bouchard dinner at Ki-sho. This was absolutely stunning - a truly magnificently aged white Burg. A complex nose of nutmeg, minerals, figs, yuzu, almond paste, Thai mango, sweetened pineapple and peach. This was amazingly fresh and sturdy, with such precision, focus and elegance. The palate was just as impressive, with loads of juicy sweet yellow fruit, minerals, stone, almonds, cashews with the slightest touch of honey and spice. The finish was long, the wine had a quite remarkable amount of acidity left and this was holding on really well, even with extended air. What a privilege to have such an superb bottle of wine.
