This bottle was purchased in 2016 after sitting on a retailer's shelf since release. That and the amber color lead me to suspect it's not representative of bottles with better storage history. Candied citrus and spicy botrytis on the nose, the palate is viscous and fruity and seems a little flat and lacking a good acidic snap to keep it vibrant. The finish is a bit short and underwhelming. A bit of a disappointment, especially in contrast to a wonderful '05 Brücke Auslese the previous night. But I really do think the storage was a big factor in the lackluster showing.

A private dinner (Restaurant Zoldering, Amsterdam, NL): AP 05 07. Half bottle. Rich and ripe, relatively soft style but with tangy acidity, wonderfully pure fruit and spicy botrytis, good but not great length indicates that this wine is completely ready.

Lovely, but not quite the stunner it’s been before. The intensity of the peach notes, for example, seem faded—a pity as we’d laid on ripe, au point, white peaches from the local NJ orchard to pair with.

Yellow gold, oily texture. Peaches, mango, candied pineapple. It helps that the acidity is pretty high. Impressive.

Deepening gold color. Peaches and citrus and honeysuckle. Good acidity and not overly sweet. Magnificent against the duck foie gras.
