Golden yellow color and nose with lots of fruit and vanilla. Apple, melon, carmel and vanilla in the mouth. Big, creamy mouthfeel and long, lush finish.

My point of reference for this stunning Chard is its cousin from Beringer: the '02 Sbragia Limited Release. They're both cut from the same cloth, being superrich and amply oaked in the flashy California style that I like so well. The nose here shows more buttery cream corn than the Limited Release, and its mid-palate is less citrusy and acidic while heavier on the minerals, nuts, and even pine. The finish is lovely, long, and figgy, and it manages to keep in check the whopping 15.4% alcohol. I'd be even higher on this if it showed just a bit more edge -- maybe some tangy green apple, for example -- but I'm looking forward to my next glass all the same.

Winner group dinner at Two Chefs. Last bottle. Rich and viscous. No one even guessed it was a Cali chard

At O'R'O Miami Beach w Ernie&Selma Specarelli. Rich opulent white with buttered popcorn flavor and light minerality. A terrific value.
