Translucent light ruby. Nose of sharp red berry, fennel, damp cellar, light floral notes. Layers of pleasantly brisk red raspberry fruit cut with crushed pebble and saline on the incisive palate. Snappy acidity and serious but filed off tannin. Medium length finish of coppery red fruit and earthy iron filament. Youngish but fresh and good.

Scarlet ruby. Nose of astringent raspberry and black cherry, damp cellar, musky violets, earth. Somewhat dilute on the palate at first, with emergence of iron-inflected coppery red berry fruit laced with soil and brier over time. Spry acidity and firm but weedy tannin. Longer finish of brambly red fruit and earthy iron. Ultimately enjoyable with roast chicken.

Very pretty on the nose, although not super articulate or complex. Same on the palate, and it comes across as lacking in density and impact. Perhaps it’s still sleeping. I hope.

As always in Lafouge, this is squeeky clean and fresh. 2008 is getting into their drinking window, and I quite like them at this stage. Most village 2008 are ready in my opinion. They refreshing with the vintage typical string of acidity. Great wine for food this one. Even non experienced wine drinkers like it!

Pulled this out at last minute to go with a rustic chicken dish. Medium ruby color. Somewhat imploded but promising nose of crushed red raspberry, stone, spring blossom, damp cellar. Pure red mulberry and raspberry fruit in persistent layers on the already nuanced palate with elements of iron and iodine alongside. Arched acidity and firm yet pliant tannins. Moderately long finish of lush red fruit ending in tart grip. Already delicious, this will only improve. Terrific QPR.
