  Conterno is fantastic. Stern and closed on open. Very floral after an hour decant. Perfect foil to the truffle. Fantastic structure. Great acid. Very tannic and powerful but great with the dinner. Love it at this stage versus too old. Still sipping, and it’s a punch in the face. In a good way. For $36.80 at Garagiste, world class.

  Drinking pretty well at this point. Decanted for about an hour. Classic Barolo. Not as nuanced or beautiful as Aldo Conterno other bottlings. Very solid nonetheless.

  Finally this wine is starting to taste like I expect a Barolo to taste. I have been fairly frustrated with this wine as it has mostly been too tannic or too acid for my taste. Now however it is starting to improve. When first opened it was very acidic. But after decanting and aeration it took on a deeper flavor profile. The acidity dissipated and the underlying fruit balanced with tannin and the classic Barolo "zing" were all present. However I am getting to old to wait 15 years for a wine. Actually since I bought this case in 2012, I have only waited 10 years but even that is a lot. the color was deep red with no signs of oxidation. There was a mild fruity bouquet.
