Late night at Maison Dakota with neighbourhood friends. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Screw-cap. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, yellow lemon colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of ripe citrus lemon, touch of tropical pineapple, integrated nutty oak. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of integrated savoury nutty oak, ripe citrus lemon, ripe peaches, sweet pineapple, salty wet stones minerality with honey. Long stony finish. Oddly has a fizzy effervescent mouth-feel. Very good quality. Still very much alive and feels younger than expected. Well kept under screw-cap. Nice age to drink already. Day 2: Improved. Honey creme brulee, lemon confit and oil, roasted hazelnuts. Very nice.

Beautifully mature chardonnay. Just a top class chardonnay with dense lemon/lime, brine, & flint. Good length and composition. I'm a sucker for these types of flinty chardonnays so I was digging this quite a bit. There was also a nice acidic structure to the wine suggesting a good life ahead of it.

With lightly smoked salmon fillets & Jersey Royal potatoes. Completely different to Hunting Hill - classy oak treatment with minerals woven into the texture. Weighty & long. Very good.

Vintages ending in 8 (La Trompette, London): Blind. Full mid greeny yellow. Spicy. Reductive. New world Chard nose. Quite fat. Lots of upfront body and breadth but not much length. Clearly very well made. Ultimately lacks interest. ***1/2. Leaving it in the glass, this opens out after a couple of hours and fills in the mid-palate hole. Decant or open in advance for an extra point or so.
