Arnot-Roberts' 2008 Fellom Ranch is quite Bordelaise in style with cassis, tobacco, cedar, and dried herb on the nose preluding a palate of cassis and herb. Killer, bright acidity. Bordeaux and Santa Cruz at their best. More or less at peak but no rush if well stored. (2020 ex cellar release)

Nice balance and tone. On the palate it steers between herbal notes without being vegetal and dark fruit that isn’t even slightly jammy. A delightful new school (not oak bomb) American cab in its prime.

What a fascinating wine! Initially, it showed fairly primary, medium-bodied, red-fruited with smooth tannins. It went fantastically with pan roasted filet mignons. After an hour, it began to turn more savory with herbal elements and, surprisingly, more assertive tannins. After another 30 min, the fruit began to reassert itself and the tannins to smooth out. Throughout all, there was a firm spine of acidity. No hurry on this wine. I foresee another 5 years of development and then a very slow decline.
