Brick red, paling edges. Large bq w sweet dried cherries, coffee, dark chocolate, stone dust, minerals. almost full bodied w plenty of crisp acidity, prominent sandy tannins, intense cherry fruit. Elegant, lingering aftertaste with complexity. While still powerful, it has mellowed now. May last another couple of years. Great wine!

This was a lovely classy Brunello. Colour still quite deep with just a few amber tints. Nose expressive with mature balsamic tinged and savoury red fruit and typically ripe Tuscan odour of marmalade in the cooking pot with a touch of leather. Palate was quite full, deep and seamless still with plenty of fruit, silky texture, minerals, some forest floor, fresh and tangy acidity and enough tannic support on the long finish to suggest that the wine will still enjoy many healthy years ahead. Excellent.

Ein Beispiel für einen haltbaren Brunello, 25 Jahre und keine Schwäche, klare kräftige Struktur, frische Säure klares Aroma schöne Frucht von Kirsche und Pflaume. Genial gereift. Ein absoluter Genuss!

The 1990 Poggio al Vento is a dark and brooding Brunello with years of development ahead of it. Even at this age, it remains a massive and imposing wine in need of decanting. With a slow start on the nose, this began to open up in the glass with aromas of dried black cherry, roasted meat and dusty potpourri. On the palate, it was rich and supple with dark red fruits and inner floral notes of dried flowers and leaves, yet there a concentration here that drives this wine and tempts the imagination. The finish was refined and even juicy with lingering hints of dried herbs and tobacco.
