Part 2 Produttori del Barbaresco 2009 horizontal. Aired in bottle few hours beforehand. Tasted semi-blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of sour red cherries, red plums. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, soft red plums, fine young earth, spices. Long grippy mouth-filling finish. Very good quality. Mostly still primary at the moment. Hold this for more development. After more than 72hrs: Additional licorice note. Tannins just a little softer.

Drink soon. This might just be an instance of bottle variation, but the wine was a lot more evolved than I would have expected. It's very tasty, but the tannins are fully resolved, the acidity is quite low, and the tertiary flavors are emerging.

Opened an slow ox'd for almost 4 hours. We went with friends to a local BYOB where they decanted the bottle for us. Red fruit and flowers on the nose. The palate is cherry, plums, pipe tobacco and sweet spices. The finish is nice and long. Drank alongside a 2010 Capanna Riserva and this was the preferred wine of the evening. 93+

Likely the best Barbaresco I have ever had. 2009 is turning out to be a truly wonderful vintage for Barbaresco. The balance in the Paje is just superb with only soft, fine grained tannin on the finish. The palate is full of bright, lively fruit. Just a magnificent wine.

Excellent wine, as all of the 2009 Produttori Riserva have been.
