A bit declining. Still at a very high level but loosing some structure and precision. Some ripe fruits and tannins. I would not much longer. 95

Enjoyed with my New Year's Eve dinner of filet mignon. This wine remains tasty and impressive. My notes from the past continue to hold true. I decanted for 1 hour and then served. Had to strain from the bottle due to a rebellious cork.

Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Obelix - Chicago IL): I can appreciate why others really like this rich and powerful black-fruited powerful wine, I just find it slightly less multi-dimensioned than great wines with this same volume. Still, very tasty indeed.

Late entry. Best California Cabernet I’ve ever had, bar none. Glad to have had the opportunity to try one. Served with ‘82 Mouton and ‘67 D’Yquem for Christmas lunch/dinner.

Was shared at a dinner party. Beautiful aroma, vibrant flavor, and the finish went on for ever. Fully resolved tannins.
From a magnum.
Not sure what perfection is, but this has to be remarkably close.

Quick note. Deep red fruit and very complex. aging at a glacial pace. Hanging on to the remaining bottles for a decade at least.

What an amazing treat to have this wine! It followed a Peter Michael Point Rouge 2016 (95 points). Definitely benefits from a longish decant. Even though it had been double decanted for a couple of hours the first taste was all dark dark dark fruit, but then it opened up beautifully over the next 2 hours. Layers and layers if flavour! Gorgeous mint / eucalyptus profile giving it lift and freshness. Massive fruit power. A complete joy! Agree with someone here that keeping it on the cooler side v important - it was a hot evening so needed to chill it down a touch every so often and it just shined.

Just exceptional. Still young with plenty of fruit and nice long finish. Notes of tobacco, blackberry and menthol. Amazing for 25 years.

Popped another bottle for New years Eve tapas dinner and served it from a decanter after about an hour (which I recommend). I think this cuvee has gone down in taste since my last report. I no longer give it a perfect rating but believe it is "only" a 99. Yeah. Like I really care with the one point drop. Nor should you. LOL. Remember though to serve it at a temperature that is in the low 60s. Also for those who question the need to decant older wines, take a sip or two (or three or four, if you can cut yourself off at that count) upon popping the cork and I think you will agree that it opens up and shows my character after that one-hour period and was worth the wait.

Decanted for one hour and consumed over a dinner w grilled NY strips. Lots of herbs, tobacco, and red fruit on the nose. Layer upon layer of fruit and spice, with a long, long finish. Light tannins remain, and this bottle was still very primary. At least 5 more years to go, based on the way this bottle showed. Just stunningly good.

Online Blind Tasting: BDX vs Napa plus some Sweets: Tasted blind. Note based on ~ 5cl bottle, filled two days before the tasting.
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux
Clear, deep ruby color, almost inky, lots of glycerine. Clean, pronounced and developing nose. Red fruit, tobacco, fine oak, some floral notes, hundreds of spices and herbs. Very fine, elegant and extremely complex. What a beauty!
Dry. Acidity and tannin are perfectly integrated, never seen that in a Bordeaux blend before!
On the palate a true sensation! It has enormous power, but also an incredible balance and elegance. Pressure, tension, depth and density, this is truly great. The fruit, fine spices and ethereal notes are coating your mouth for minutes. The finish is extremely long, fine, fruity and mineral. What a beauty! This is close to perfection. The only reason I am not scoring it higher is due to the fact that I still see upscale potential 😊 96-97+

If you love California cabs, this is as good as it gets. Very Screaming Eagle-esque. Perfume on nose is exquisite with a mix of dark fruit, tabacco and rose petals. This continues onto the palate; but instead of Bordeaux-like earth you get more fruit and sugar. This is where I prefer Bordeaux over CA cabs, but I understand why some worship this wine. Perfect balance. Long finish. 95 would be 98 if I loved this flavor profile.

decanted 45 min, in the glass for 3 hours. still deeply colored, tho some mauve starting to show on the rim; nose is withdrawn & condensed for the early stages, becoming increasingly complex, showing its high-end elevage; surprisingly, a balanced & slightly glycerine palate weight, not heavy or sappy; palate is concentrated, black currant liqueur, wild herbs & underbrush, menthol, elevated w/air; drying tannins may always be part of the profile.

purchased on release in '01, w/ the intention to sell them later; second bottle, liked better younger, two years ago. can only imagine how many bottles of wine I prefer now could've been in the cellar instead.

prime ribeye, roasted mushrooms, 'diane sauce'; pommes anna, broccoli rabe w/garlic & balsamic

Decanted over cocktails. Pristine bottle. Dense, seamless Cabernet with still-abundant dark fruit and tertiary notes of plum and fig. Firm but light tannins, light and integrated acid, and a very long finish show what a true first-growth Napa wine Harlan is. Other than a bit of browning on the rim this shows no signs of fading. The purity, density, precision, and long finish made this a perfect experience tonight and the perfect sunset in the dying summer of Seattle in this plague year didn't hurt either.

The very first sip of expensive wine I ever had was 1994 Harlan in the early 2000s and it opened my eyes to why someone would pay more than $11 for a bottle of wine. What magnificent work this team has done over the years. Thank you!

Didn't live up to expectations. Could be too young as tasted hot even after 1.5 hours decanting. Spent a few hours enjoying and heat disappated some but not fully. Rich ruby color with tinge of autumn but not spoiled. Would recommend cellaring a few more years despite color, although it's possible I missed the right window. Hard to tell with this complex a wine.

Smoke, blackberry liqueur, blueberries, cassis, spice and toasty oak aromas were all over the place. Powerful, concentrated and intense, this mouth filling wine coats your palate with waves of juicy ripe berries. Like all the bottles from this evening, the Harlan Estate was served blind. I bring this up so that you know, out of a table with 8 people, not one taster mentioned finding VA in the this particular bottle. I am certain some bottles are not clean, but this specific botte was a compelling tasting experience!

PnP. Deep ruby-brown. Full bodied, with soy, herbs and ripe fruit. Great balance in this wine. Finishes with great acidity to counterbalance the ripe fruits. Enjoy now
