Sock this wine away in the deepest recesses of your cellar - this bottle felt very shut down and felt like it needed significantly more time to integrate the tannins better. "Stern" feels like a weird word to describe wine, but I think the intention is to convey the seriousness of this wine - I am sure this wine will be a great bottle in 20-30 years. It's not a bad bottle now, but I really do think this will be much better in many more years. (56 views)

Just brooding in the typical Gouges way, on a green vintage. One could feel the depth, despite the vintage, but in my opinion, this unmistakable Gouges does not serve well on a vintage such as '04. This is an exemple where I feel the admiration for the maker, but did not enjoy the bottle which is some distance from what I cherish of Burgundy. (it was rather bitter, with depth, full of earth but not enough fruits left and yet one could feel the profound potential in that direction... a weird profile indeed) A couple of years ago, from the same maker, same vintage but Les Porrets St Georges was more enjoyable, for sure. Une bouteille à pleine maturité avec énormément de complexité. A boire dans les 2 ans, je doute que le millésime permette une garde de plus de 15 ans. Belle structure bien fondue, avec beaucoup de tertiaire, déjà au détriment d’un fruit qui semble un peu faible. (124 views)

Medium ruby color. Violet floral nose. Black plum and cherry fruit on the palate, with some sappiness. Medium intensity, but still fairly primary. THis is nice, but not what I had hoped it would evolve into. Continue to hold in hopes of more evolution. (569 views)

Attractive at first with fairly mature aromas, but there is a tannic hardness at the core of this Wine that is still unresolved and I fear will never come around. After 24 hours, the wine tastes quite disjointed. Drink up as it’s not going to improve from here. (121 views)

Jammy blackberry on the nose. Deeply and densely fruit forward, with fine, drying tannins on the finish. This has an elegant texture and weight on the palate, but its too dense and ripe for my tastes. (266 views)

March 2024 Gouges/Chevillon Dinner (YH Beijing - SF): This was popped and poured at the dinner, and it was initially quite closed on the nose and the palate. But, texturally, it was very elegant with a weightless presence on the palate. It took about an hour or two for it to open up, showcasing some dark fruit and meatiness on the palate and a spicy finish. Lovely, but could have benefited from a longer decant. (234 views)

March 2024 Gouges/Chevillon Dinner (YH Beijing - SF): It’s fascinating to taste a wine that is 11 years older than the '10 Prulier next to it, yet exhibiting much firmer tannins with a more imposing structure. There is impressive stuffing here with a beautiful nose, but I mainly got a wall of tannin throughout most of the night. Others who revisited later on said it was opening up a bit, but this needs a lot more time. (129 views)

Somber red fruited scents, with turned earth, some wood, followed by red fruits, dense and grippy mid palate with fiery tannins from ferrous soils, ending in a persistent take no prisoner finish. At this stage still a rough gem lacking brilliancy, but all the underlying materials are there. A long snooze in the cellar is necessary. (381 views)

This really wasn't showing very well at all. Surprisingly dark in color, earthy, and very, very tannic, this was hard to even recognize as Burgundy. Tough as nails on opening, and even a four-hour decant couldn't bring it around, while on Day Two it was basically flavorless and gone. Maybe this wine is just years & years away, but this bottle was not enjoyable. (407 views)

Opened 2 hours before serving but needed another 90 minutes in the glass before it started showing. Great freshness, coolness on the palate, berry fruit, extremely fine tannins providing structure. Very enjoyable and has years of development ahead for those minded to hold. (196 views)
