Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 34 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by auldalliance on 12/15/2023: Coravined 2 glasses to drink with baked smoked haddock.
Initially very pale in colour, with greenish tinge, but seemed to take on a light straw note with second glass.
Too cold initially, and bone dry, still taut. Opened up as it warmed up, this remains quite an austere Chablis compared to some. Bruised apple notes, and a hint of some riper fruit but this is what 'steely' was made for. Has it got more to give? (315 views)
Tasted by Pancreatitis on 5/7/2023: Colourlessly pale.
Smoky, flinty, matchstick nose.
Halide-infused seaside palate with hints of Kaffir.
Actually very nice. (420 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 1/12/2023: Have not tried this for a while and CT tells me only 5 left. If I had checked I would have opened something else instead. This is really good. Maturing at a glacial pace, still pale green flecked lemon in colour. The nose is flinty, saline, mineral and limes. Brackish on the palate, with broader Chardonnay fruit than I was expecting, and a long persistent finish. Broadness might pass with air? Suspect it needs a decant. Check in later. Day 2 and it’s tighter, more lemon and saline. Long future under Diam. next bottle 2026 18.25 (577 views)
Tasted by Darbus123 on 8/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Pale colour with a green tinge. Classic Chablis nose and palate. Very delicate. As others have noted, this will go for a few years yet. (398 views)
Tasted by Pancreatitis on 1/24/2022: Pale, green tinged. On nose and palate a seaside explosion of halide and ozone, iodine, limestone mineralite, Meyer lemon and lime blossom. Still quite reserved and youthful, just entering its window really. (1245 views)
Tasted by blaine on 12/26/2021 & rated 91 points: This was very good, but not sure where there is to go with this one going forward. Light straw color. Modest nose. Palate still acid-forward, lemons, with a hint of roundness to it. On the other hand, feels like we caught this one just in time, as there is also a hint of the beginning of oxidation. Overall in a very good place. (959 views)
Tasted by Pancreatitis on 12/22/2021: Almost colourless.
Action packed, lively nose, saline, lime blossom, citrus, sea breeze and oyster shell, pristine and intense.
Palate still somewhat dominated by acidity, emulates the nose, but with peppery overtones. (958 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 7/14/2021: Similar to a bottle of a year ago, but with a honey tinge emerging on the palate. Will leave the rest for tomorrow and update post. Lovey wine. (1086 views)
Tasted by vide on 7/2/2021 & rated 92 points: This wine is not "bone dry". This wine speaks with the heavy eloquence of the 2014 vintage, which has depth but as yet (in my opininon) little complexity.

Re Geoff7777 below. It's a shame: Louis Michel were once great, and they have that potential, but this present generation are not quite there.

2-0. A famous win.

Tasted by Geoff7777 on 7/1/2020: Straight out of the bottle this is excellent. It has unwound since the last time I tried it in 2018. Flavour descriptions are unchanged, but I don’t know what it does with more air because the bottle emptied rather quickly. Classic Chablis and so young. Vastly superior to the 2014 Louis Michel M de T opened two weeks ago. (1009 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/25/2019 & rated 90 points: Creamy apples and honey on the nose with lemon curd, and classic crushed shell and sea salt notes. Buttery texture but vibrant acidity. Juicy yellow apples, drizzled in limes. Has lots of creamy depth but punchy, saline, mineral notes are there as well. Really opens up well with some air, this got much more nuanced and expressive. Solid stuff for $35. (1235 views)
Tasted by Jarmo Y on 3/23/2019 & rated 83 points: Lots of minerals, in aromas there was hint of oak and milk caramel in palate there was also lemon. (1446 views)
Tasted by Pancreatitis on 10/24/2018: Almost colourless. Saline kelpy oyster shell mineralite on nose and palate, light and breezy but with an underlying tension,a hint of lavender after 4 hours open. Lovely, youthful, but quite reticent at this stage. (1447 views)
Tasted by auldalliance on 7/28/2018: Still very taut and bone dry, saline. It did open up quite a bit over an hour or so, and some restrained fruit. Classical Chablis from a good vintage, needs time though, either in bottle or in glass. (1488 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 6/9/2018: So simple on opening, two hours later this was so punchy. Brine tinged lime juice with long saline infused lemon brûlée finish and laser like acidity. A reminder that the 2014's need some air to show their inherit structure. I would decant this. (1223 views)
Tasted by ManhattanBeach on 3/8/2018: Quintessentially Wine Client Portfolio Tasting in association with H2Vin (The Westbury Hotel, London): £30.50/btl. G described it as 'like raccoon poo;' L said 'blue cheese' (1697 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 2/16/2018: 2014 Chablis Lunch (Grappa Leichhardt): Pale. Again, soft white flowers but without the classic salty “cut” one looks for in Chablis. An easy wine to like and very well regarded by the critics, hence I own quite a bit and have tried it at least 3 or 4 times. But I find it hard to get excited about at present. (1179 views)
Tasted by Jyri Tynkkynen on 2/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Clean, focused, young not-too-ripe-lemon-like Chardonnay'esque fruit, some minerality, good acidity. Some toast/oak on the after taste. Good text-book Chablis which will age well at least a little bit longer. Me likes. (1060 views)
Tasted by western on 12/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Very light lemon tinge. Nose offers up citrus, white flowers, a hint of honey and salt. Lovely palate. Clean, crisp with lovely minerality. (1022 views)
Tasted by Claret & CdP Gang on 7/29/2017 & rated 91 points: Very light straw color, crushed rocks nose, a good Chablis, very good with oysters

Tasted by pjaines on 1/28/2017: This is crackling and oozing with quality - I always find the Chablis for Bichot to be under-appreciated. A racy mixture of slatey-minerally elements with guava and some smokey fruit mixed up with a lingering, creamy finish and a final smack of salty crunch. It really is all thing to all men. Great stuff, and because of the relative richness of the fruit this is approachable now without the mouth puckering cut some chablis can have in their youth. (1830 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/7/2016: Big, rich and rather darn delicious. Yet, maybe showing a bit too much oak? Lots of dry extract and succulence. (1809 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/21/2016: Les Portes d'Or de la Bourgogne - Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Chablis France): Tasting, brief note. Similar to Vaillons, but slightly longer and better textured. Good for its level. (2696 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
