| Community Tasting Notes (average 94.3 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by chatters on 7/12/2023: Langton's Bordeaux En Primeur 2022 tasting (Langham Hotel, Kent Street, Sydney): Cream, gooseberry, a little sweet spice, slight leesy notes, tiny stone fruit almost peachy in fact. Nice nose. Juicy, fleshy, tangy, persistent silky burr supports the fruit long, serious. Nice (2579 views) | | Tasted by Collector1855 on 5/14/2023 & rated 95 points: Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: A very grand wine the 2019 (96pt), which is rare with a SauvBlanc at least for my palate. Great aromatic fireworks. Deep, with herbs, citrus and grassy notes. One of the best Sauvignon Blanc blends I've ever had and in a completely different league than the other whites today. Having had many oxidized Domaine de Chevalier white wines, I asked the estate whether this problem was finally addressed. I was proudly shown a Diam cork and explained that this was the result of a larger investigation. Inconsistent, unstable corks. Let's see. I would love for this great wine to stay in this shape for many more years. The 2022 (95pt) was also top, perhaps not quite as extravagant as the 2019 but in a similar league. Figeac (98), 2. Brane Cantenac (97), 3. Les Carmes Haut Brion (96). Full list of 20 wines and scores in included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Mostly gooseberry fruit with a decent intensity to it. Aromas of spice add some complexity, but not more. Slightly creamy texture, but I felt the this struggled with the acidity which felt insufficient. (2547 views) | | Tasted by englishman's claret on 5/9/2023: Voluminous nose, generous and resonant, full of tropical fruit. This is so grand and so opulent on the palate; maybe it could use a touch more acidity to match, but it seems to work quite nicely and it will be fun to follow this over the years. (1953 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/8/2023 & rated 96 points: Squeeze grapefruits over crushed rocks, and you get the idea of the perfume. The palate is packed with all the sweet, juicy, ripe pineapples, Granny Smith apples, tangerine skins, pomelo, and honeysuckle you could ask for. The wine provides the perfect blend of fresh, juicy citrus, sweetness, lift and creaminess. Drink this young for its youthful exuberance, or age it a few years for more secondary development. The wine blends 70% Sauvignon Blanc with 30% Semillon, 13.8% ABV, 3.28 pH. The harvest took place August 26 - September 5. Drink from 2025-2037. 96-96 Pts. History of Bordeaux
History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification
"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson
"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman "The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson
"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson
"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon RimmermanGraves Vins de Graves (Conseil des Vins de Graves) - Read more about Pessac Leogan Graves and its winesPessac-Léognan Pessac-Leognan reds: Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Soil: Predominantly gravel and sandy rock, with varying proportions of clay and sandstone Surface Area: 1,491 ha
