Big, tannic and syrupy. Did not improve dramatically with air. Not a fan, don't understand the hype. (167 views) | | Tasted by Redfisher on 3/18/2024 & rated 80 points: Not my style I guess but this wine had a slightly sulfur taste which did not dissipate even with several hours of breathing. Slightly peppery and medium finish . It was a bargain at Costco but probably will not purchase again (223 views) | | Tasted by Eirikr on 2/13/2024 & rated 94 points: Peaking now (Feb 2024)! (279 views) | | Tasted by wdlohr on 10/15/2023 & rated 87 points: dark solid red, aromas of fresh blackberries and mushrooms, tastes powder and coffee grounds, dry flinty. A bit 1-dimensional and hot. (479 views) | | Tasted by socidelvino on 7/4/2023 & rated 88 points: Eye: dark garnet color. Nose: cocoa, cherries, earthy. Palate: solid structure, high tannins, nice fruit, medium finish. (588 views) | | Tasted by RichardsEric1 on 5/20/2023 & rated 90 points: Color. Stronger dark red. Still translucent.
Nose. Cherry, Cherry liquor, cocoa powder, sweet tobacco.
Palate. Cocoa powder and grippy tannins. Decent acidity helps the fruit balance out. (643 views) | | Tasted by RonT on 5/13/2023 & rated 88 points: Had over a couple of days saving with the Corvin. Blackberry, graphite and a dark earthiness. Good wine, great price. (534 views) | | Tasted by foyfrcs on 3/19/2023 & rated 89 points: New wine to me. Deep ruby. Mixture of black & red fruits on the nose. Blackberry, brambles with some coffee, chocolate on the palate. Medium bodied, well integrated tannins. Very good and should be ok for 3-5 years I think. (630 views) | | Tasted by Salute on 1/8/2023 & rated 90 points: Very nice wine, great QPR. Deep red with purple edges. Blackberries on the nose. Full mouthfeel, ripe dark friuts, sharp tannins on the end. Lingering finish. Again, very nice. Would buy again. (741 views) | | Tasted by Ticker tape guy on 1/2/2023 & rated 88 points: dark medium body with weak integrated tannins dark fruit and tobacco..paired well with grill ham steak (592 views) | | Tasted by LIWines on 12/25/2022 & rated 91 points: Merry Christmas 2022
#4: was going to put in some notes but then i (550 views) | | Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 10/30/2022 & rated 91 points: This was surprisingly nice and not as over oaked/manufactured as I expected. Still it’s full bodied and like most Numanthia it’s geared to Napa Cabernet fans. Dark plum, blackberry, charred/smokey earth and a good helping of oak. I’d easily buy again at $17. (1078 views) | | Tasted by nocowine on 9/28/2022: Very nice. Dark fruit with some earthiness. Note much acid. Not complex but enjoyable. Good value. Would buy again. (901 views) | | Tasted by tannictongue on 8/13/2022: Was not excited about this wine. (899 views) | | Tasted by Pizzamannewmexico on 7/20/2022 & rated 88 points: Drank at Julian Serrano Aria LasVegas W wifey (919 views) | | Tasted by tlcadwell on 4/9/2022: I bought this wine to drink along with several others to try on fishing trip to the Mississippi delta. It is terrific and a great value. James Suckling awarded it a 96 and I concur. Well balanced with a slight bit of dark fruit. Entirely enjoyable. (1159 views) | | Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 4/4/2022 & rated 85 points: District blinds w Shang, Peter (District, SF): Red 1 Deep ruby purple. (Peter thinks med plus) Ripe nose. Deep. Raisinated. Med minus intensity. (Peter: not fruity enough to tilt new world) 14.5% alcohol (actually 15%). Medium minus acid. Plush. Dark fruit. Maybe 25% new oak but carries it well. Medium tannins. Pretty plush and fine.
Not getting any vegetal character or black pepper from the palate.
Laterals. - California Merlot. - California cab - would expect more acid and tannins. - California Bdx blend. - California Rhône blend - too much color. - I’m blanking on full bodied red laterals. - Australian ahoraz.
Final guess: CA Merlot. $30. 2020 Peter: cotes du Rhône. More savory. Lower intensity.
Analysis: maybe I was off on acid?
Tech sheet: 16 months in first year French oak. (1034 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Bodega Numanthia Producer websiteSpain Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia Wine Map on weinlagen-info
Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net
Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial).
