Tasted by Mrpostman32383 on 10/8/2019 & rated 94 points: Last bottle I opened was dead. This one was alive and kicking. One of the best bottles of Carlisle I've had, and I've had a lot. Not sure all bottles will be the same though, like I said, last one was toast. (533 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 3/11/2013 & rated 89 points: clear, maroon, in color. dark black fruit, cedar, caramel, on the nose. salt, pepper, vanilla, oak, toast, smoke, blackberry, on the palate. low-medium acid, medium tannins, on the finish. (1895 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 8/21/2010 & rated 88 points: One of my least favorite Carlisles but a decent QPR. Joan on the other hand liked it. (2623 views)
Tasted by meatman on 1/6/2010 & rated 91 points: Another impressive showing. This wine is in a great spot. Similar notes as last time with a little more of a Rhone profile. A great Cali Rhone. Too bad it was my last bottle. (2730 views)
Tasted by JFish on 12/19/2009: Quick TN. The grenache predominated but the mouvedre gave it some mild funk with the syrah filling it out. Drinking very well - no noticeable heat. (2719 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 9/7/2009: We drank this a couple of days ago and did not take notes. The only thing that I really remember was that it was pretty hot, and that the grenache really stood out. Not memorable for a Carlisle. However, I am looking forward to the 2008 release of this as it hasn't been made in a few years. (2515 views)
Tasted by KenK on 3/16/2009 & rated 89 points: Nice Carlisle Retrospective Tasting 2003-2006; 3/12/2009-3/16/2009 (Desmond's in Naples, FL): Sweet dark rich nose with good density featuring ripe black dusty fruits. Touch overripe for me almost prune-like quality. Dryish finish, but good overall balance. Does not seem likely to improve Drink-up. (2482 views)
Tasted by meatman on 3/14/2009 & rated 90 points: Upon opening, everything (nose and palate) was too candied and sweet. Reminded me of some of the Aussie grenache I have had. However, after about 2 hours of air, the wine had transformed into very much of a rhone profile with a slight Cali flair. Sweet red fruits on the nose with white pepper. Palate is more red than blue fruits with some game and a nice spicy sweet finish. Very well integrated at this point. No heat at all. (1487 views)
Tasted by JFish on 1/10/2009: Some oak on the nose initially. Drinking very well - the sweetish (but not candied) grenache stands out but not to the detriment of the wine. Seemed to me to be nicely balanced and together. It may continue to get better but I think this is hitting its stride. (1526 views)
Tasted by JBD on 9/4/2008 & rated 89 points: Excellent juice (1521 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 1/1/2008 & rated 90 points: Nice bottle of wine. Beautiful garnet color. Medium body with tightly wound flavors of earthy, wild blueberries. Very nice finish with tntegrated tannins. (1818 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 5/30/2007 & rated 90 points: Anwar opened a magnum of this over the weekend at his home for the CWM. This is a Rhone blend of 71% Dry Creek Valley Grenache (Unti Ranch), 21% Dry Creek Valley Mourvèdre (Unti Ranch) and 8% Russian River Valley Syrah (Atoosa's Vineyard). Only 173 cases were made of this wine. This came in at a whooping 15.7% alcohol but did not show any heat. Unexpectedly, this was not over the top and was rather integrated and drinking well. Medium bodied with notes of strawberry, black cherry and some gaminess. This is not a wine to age in my opinion. 89-90 points. (1815 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 2/19/2007 & rated 92 points: A nose of creamy blackcurrant, kirsch, tar and dried grasses. Smooth, creamy currant fruit, licorice on the medium-bodied palate. Great balance on the finish with just enough acidity. Great now and over the next few years. (2116 views)
 Tasted by ScottS on 11/19/2006 & rated 88 points: 50+5+13+14+6= 88 pts (2446 views)
Tasted by MJHDC on 5/10/2006: Similar notes as last bottle, with the fruit perhaps even more vibrant. Again, a beautiful Grenache-based wine. (2472 views)
Tasted by joshtpa on 3/11/2006 & rated 91 points: On the nose a mild black cherry and currant smell. The palate was filled with plum, black cherry and some nice acidity. The finish was long and wonderful. (2613 views)
Tasted by MJHDC on 1/24/2006 & rated 90 points: This tastes more like a well-made Cotes du Rhone than virtually any California offering I've had. It is a medium ruby color, with aromas of cherry, raspberry and licorice. It is medium-bodied, and the Grenache comes forward, with plenty more cherry, pomegranate, and other red fruit, with some black pepper and spice. Very food-friendly -- modest tannin and not too hot despite the 15.7 alcohol. (2693 views)
Tasted by elliott.h.farber@gmail.com on 11/23/2005 & rated 90 points: Another very well-made wine from Mike Officer. Beautiful bright ruby color, sweet nose of red fruit and smoke, silky and viscous mid-palate of bright red fruit and white pepper, some kirsch, and a floral note on the back end. Wonderfully balanced, sweet and rich. I admit to having low expectations given it's youth, but this is prime drinking now. Perfect with pizza. (2936 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 11/19/2005 & rated 92 points: Great again and much better on day 2 - maybe this will age better than Mike Officer thinks. A beautiful nose of brambly raspberry and a horsey, funky ripe currant fruits (the Mourved?). Fabulous sappy raspberry and cherry fruit on the palate with just a little dark earthiness. Excellent length on the finish. A wine of balance and character. (2803 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 7/24/2005 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Open nose of kirsch, raspberry, dried grasses/herbs and a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied, with bright flavors of raspberry and cherry cream soda. Just a touch of heat on the otherwise smooth and long finish. I suspect that this is best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. (2987 views)
Tasted by jrj on 4/16/2005 & rated 90 points: Medium body but viscous. Nice ruby red. Cherries, kirsch and a bit of tar on the nose. Mourvedre immediately obvious on entry. Bright fruit but not a deep finish. Fresh now and may improve but not a long ager. Very pleasant, quaffable wine. Bring on the pizza. (3083 views)
Tasted by AlexRed on 4/14/2005 & rated 90 points: smooth and very tasty... (2950 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 6/4/2004: Napa-Noma Trip: Barrel Sample - this is a hypothetical blend with 3 parts Grenach, 1 part Mourvedre, and about 1/2 part Syrah. Citric nose, rather like orange juice. Lemon. Eyes closed, it smells a little like Sauvignon Blanc. Sweet red fruit on the palate, a bit tight in the finish. This could be interesting. (1298 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
