Tasted by bengti on 4/15/2017 & rated 97 points: Good friend brought this over for bday dinner after laying down for 12 years. Gorgeously developed, its power, flavour and length were perfectly integrated. A coy nose with hint of candied spice, nuts, concentrated fruit. then a palate of fresh jam, light toast, white chocolate, vanilla. Near undetectable tannins lift the finish to the next level. Incredible. (938 views)
Tasted by WillOswald on 11/12/2015 & rated 94 points: A streak of vanilla through the nose that isn't overpowering but counterfoils the candied fruit cherry leather bark concoction. Then on to toast and caramel with hint of smoke and airy chocolate. A dollop of jam black currant and tart but not too much. Lovely structure and a satisfying finish. Very young still & sweet& full bodied. Few more years left. (1446 views)
Tasted by bengti on 11/12/2015 & rated 92 points: A perfectly stored bottle of Napa red is a thing to be treasured, and this one was one of them. Classic in the style of Rhone nose, candied apples, leather, cured meats, paired with fruit intensity that isnt overpowering or too flabby in an over-extracted way. Lovely structure that is just settling down into a middle phase of maturity. Will seek out more of this lovely wine. (1412 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 10/20/2013: Just had a small pour but I didn't really enjoy this. Some heat in the aromatics and on the palate. Tart, sour fruit, some spice. Tannins resolved. (2076 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 3/11/2013 & rated 91 points: clear, red, orange, in the color. dark fruit, blueberry, licorice, pepper, cedar, vanilla, toast, smoke, oak, on the nose. soft tannins on the finish. (2043 views)
Tasted by daniel.jay on 4/21/2012 & rated 91 points: No contemporaneous notes - was very popular, fruit forward, balanced, nicely aged. Drinking very well. (1837 views)
Tasted by hawk30 on 8/21/2011 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. Great right out of the gate. Reminded me why I like these grapes. (1676 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/26/2010: OC Blind Wine Crew Does Dinner and Italian (Il Barone in Newport Beach, CA): Served blind. When I tasted this wine, I went right to a guess of the 2002 Alban Tithings, which I last had about 4 years ago. Not sure why that Alban stuck with me but this Carlisle resonated similar tones to it. Nose of lavender, face powder/talc. Palate shows the Tithings-like stone fruit pit, like nectarine. Blueberry fruit, as well. Ready to drink and is ripe-toned so pair accordingly. (2582 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 6/26/2010: The OC Blind Wine Crew goes Italian (Il Barone Ristorante, Newport Beach, CA): Served blind. Notes of sweet candy, chocolate, violets and wet paint on the nose with some vanilla oak notes later on. Sweet ripe palate of baked fruits showing strong acidity but still seeming soft overall. Would have guessed much younger, this showed like a very young big Cali wine. (2687 views)
Tasted by awkiii on 6/4/2009 & rated 93 points: berries. outstanding bottle. Mike Officer does it again. (1830 views)
Tasted by JBD on 12/25/2008 & rated 90 points: Excellent. Wish I had more (1530 views)
Tasted by 1800kidney on 12/16/2008 & rated 92 points: Checking in after 2 years...really come together, Bennett Valley Rhone 61% grenache, 31% mouvedre, 8% syrah. 15.7% alcohol. Full body and fruit extraction, wore its high alcohol well, deep deep color and long finish..very nice (1524 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 6/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Somewhat unremarkable. Not what I remembered. Had with Peas/Pasta/Bacon/Ricotta. (1602 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 5/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Pretty good stuff. Wish I had bought more. (1615 views)
Tasted by keepitreal on 2/11/2008 & rated 88 points: Still holding on in the most tasty of ways. Rich and full bodied, black fruit and clove, cedar at the finish. This wine is surprisingly good with food for how lush it is. (1691 views)
Tasted by johnwine on 11/25/2007 & rated 91 points: Parker is right-on about this wine. (1325 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 11/23/2007 & rated 89 points: Not too fruity. Good Carlisle effort. Had with pizza. (1787 views)
Tasted by keepitreal on 11/5/2007 & rated 87 points: Great fruit still, fading acid. Enticing and seductive nose. Fine tannins at the finish with sweet oak , earth and vanilla. Solid now but I wouldn't wait much longer to drink. (1685 views)
Tasted by keepitreal on 6/16/2006 & rated 89 points: The syrah in this GMS gives this wine its body and earthiness, while the grenache lends a hint of cherry that balances the spice rather nicely. Drank out of a Crate&Barrel $7.99 Window Glass, whatever that means, and enjoyed the wine thoroughly. I don't think this wine will have the legs to go more than a couple more years, so drink up. Paired surprisingly well with the Penne Al Arrabiata we ate tonight, incidentally. (2162 views)
Tasted by DFC on 5/1/2006 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 20 minutes. Medium-bodied wine that is dark ruby in color. On the nose, straightforward kirsch and not much else. On the palate, dark cherries and a touch of raspberries. Nice balance and a forward acidity here make this wine a nice match with dinner...ends with a long and lovely 30-second finish. If the nose were to open up, this wine would be worth another point or two. (2516 views)
Tasted by 1800kidney on 9/24/2005 & rated 92 points: CdP character, but nearly 16% alcohol...decant and see if it blows off (2586 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 7/5/2005: ($20) Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah, about 15.5% alcohol. Lofty, spicy aromatics with sweet red fruit liqueur and Zinfandel-like spiciness. Kirsch or fruiti di bosco liqueur. Concentrated and rather lovely. Almost a Chateauneuf du Pape on steroids. Nice. (1358 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 8/7/2004: i'm on the carlisle mailing list since inception, but this is the first bottle of anything i have tried. i know, i know... thanks to mark for hauling this cross country. 61% grenache, 31% mouvedre, 8% syrah. 15.7% alcohol. this is a powerhouse needing some decanting/ lots of air. sadly, it didn't get it tonight so it probably didn't show to it's potential. young, primary, full body, big oak. there's a lot of friut, but this is another good domestic that couldn't run with the big french dogs. serve it to me in another setting, and i would like it more. (1489 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 7/4/2004: ($19) Grenache at Momo's: Blind Red 4 - Big nose of clove and pepper. Slightly Zinfandel-like nose. Tons of pepper. Concentrated peppery red and black fruit with a fair amount of alcohol, but that doesn't really detract from the wine. Mouth pleasing. I heard someone say tropical fruit, and there might be something to that. The power of suggestion. Meaty late. Very nice. Hedonistic. 15.7% alcohol. Mostly Grenache with Mourvedre and Syrah. (1375 views)
Tasted by JP on 7/3/2004 & rated 92 points: This is great stuff. CdP meets California as this wine exhibits massive amounts of dark fruits highlighted by raspberry liquoer. After some time in the decanter it unwinds a bit and shows additional notes of tea leaves, slight woodshop, and plenty of spice or cigar box. Medium body with a great mouthfeel. This should probably improve over the next year or two but is delicious now with a little air. (3290 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
