Tasted by FiggySmalls on 6/25/2022: Rich, ripe and somewhat dried fruit. Earth. Medium bodied but intense. Definitely old world and with rusticity.

There's something that still unpleasantly assaults the palate... I honestly can't tell if it's the unintegrated acid, overectraction, or tannins that have "dissolved" by turning into to raspy chalk

This is not so bad as to make the wine unpleasant in the glass! It's just neither a fun or interesting wine alone in the glass.

It plays its part well alongside some room temp lamb stew (681 views)

Tasted by joet626 on 12/26/2020 & rated 88 points: dry and earthy. Definitely a food wine (1172 views)
Tasted by Jobu on 12/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Black fruit, leather, smoked meat, a little earthy spice. Solid wine. (1177 views)
Tasted by R2-D2 on 3/1/2020 & rated 88 points: Nose - black cherry, black plum, earth, game, med intensity. Palate - ripe dark cherry/plum fruit, med+ acid, med tannin, med + body, med alc, meat, lavender/dried herb, cassis, crushed stone dusty, rustic tannin, toast, bitter almond, prune/raisin. Least tannic Aglianico I think I have had and only 13% alcohol. Fresh and forward drinking. (1649 views)
Tasted by cartime on 11/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Black cherry, blackberry, prune, baking spice. Tannic. Needs time. (1110 views)
Tasted by Ruubious on 9/30/2019: Opened and decanted for about an hour, lovely aromas and structure, typical Aglianico aromas, flowers, herbs, leather. (1486 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 9/4/2019 & rated 88 points: Wild, floral, animal, black cherry and licorice nose. Very good flavour replays, with a balanced structure on the palate; pleasant bitter finish.
3.5/5 (1261 views)
Tasted by GasperTheWineGuy on 8/1/2019 & rated 90 points: Let this open up. Smooth tannin, high acidity, plum, cherry, smooth lingering finis. Worked well with beef tenderloin. (1205 views)
Tasted by vinovoyager on 7/7/2019 & rated 88 points: Enjoyed this wine and think it needs an acidic food, like pasta with marinara or pizza and red sauce, to enhance it. Good balance of fruit and peppery spice. Would buy again. (950 views)
Tasted by arperrymd on 5/31/2019 & rated 89 points: Medium garnet. High alcohol. Off dry. Very acidic with heavy tannins that are not too sharp. Spiced plum and black cherry on the nose and palate. Also a hint of cocoa powder and green bell pepper on the palate. After eating meat thin crust pizza from Papa Johns, this wine opens up nicely with a smoky, heavily-spiced, tart blackberry mouth. (1011 views)
Tasted by despore on 3/9/2019 & rated 89 points: Well made wine, fine tannins, plenty of dark fruit, especially on the finish. (914 views)
Tasted by Jchen01854 on 3/2/2019: Total Wine: a wine tour of Italy
From Irpinia, Campania. 100% aglianico. Cherry, plum, and smooth while firm tannin. Good length. (775 views)
Tasted by JimTaft on 1/14/2019 & rated 89 points: Dark and tasty, approachable and ready to drink. Still solid two days later which, to me, is high praise. Good value every day wine. (950 views)
Tasted by PasoWallaWill on 1/10/2019 & rated 90 points: I’m drinking this out of a paper cup in my hotel room on a business trip. I just picked this up to go with the pizza I was having in my room and saw the wine spectator sticker on it. If I was tasting this blind I would say it’s young super Tuscan or Malbec. Nice upfront flavors of earthy dark fruits with a very rich, hinting at sweet, mid palate. Nice tannins at the end. (857 views)
Tasted by philmtl on 9/1/2018: Excellent RQP.
(1530 views)

Aglianico

Varietal character (Appellation America)

The Southern Italy Outpost (on the CellartTracker Forum)

Originally from Greece and an early Roman favorite, Aglianico was planted as early as the seventh century B.C. Infused with interesting aromas of plums, raisins and licorice. Dried floral notes flow easily into the medium to full-bodied palate of black pepper, smooth, subtle cherry, and plum flavors.. A stylish, intriguing young red, with fine tannins and a ripe balanced finish.
