Tasted by Gen NY on 11/19/2022 & rated 82 points: I bought this as a learning experiment. I wanted to know: what happens to vouvray sec after almost 20 years? My answer, based on this one bottle, is: “nothing good.”

opened and slow ox’ed for 30 mins.

The nose was medicinal, I could not get it precisely, but I am sure I’ve smelled that same smell in a hospital or dentist’s office. The taste was mostly of roasted lemon but with an undercurrent if stems and rotting leaves. It was not corked, just outliving its usefullness.

I gave the rest of the bottle to my college kid and his friends, who were watching a movie. They didn’t seem to mind the taste and finished the btl in 30 mins. (377 views)
Tasted by gretsch2holton on 6/3/2018 & rated 93 points: Honeysuckle aroma. fabulous. Not OTH. (1113 views)
Tasted by jmht on 7/23/2012 & rated 92 points: Lemon custard, lemon chiffon pie, lemon zest, lemon meringe, and uh, lemons. And minerals. Drinking beautifully now. (3323 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 9/5/2011 & rated 85 points: From .375, slightly past prime. Smooth and balanced, but mostly old oak on palate. (3421 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 11/20/2009 & rated 90 points: Rene Geoffroy, Huet, Bosquet du Pape Chante Merle, Girard, Saxum (Our Home): Light golden on color. A nose of honey, oranges, a bit of caramel. Great acidity. Leaner than most recent vintages, but not in a bad way. Great complexity. Went great with the soup. (4540 views)
Tasted by Dandiophile on 9/27/2009 & rated 90 points: Nice subtle stone fruit behind some terrific lemon zest and minerals. Very well-balanced, drinking well now. (3607 views)
Tasted by jmht on 8/5/2009 & rated 89 points: Consumed over 3 days, better at days 2 and 3. Notes reflect day 2.

Nose-- lemon mostly, some floral aspects. Palate-- lemon, lemon drops, bracing bracing acidity, minerals. Finish-- mostly lemon and wet stones. Should age well-- 5-10 years more. (3170 views)
Tasted by futronic on 11/2/2008 & rated 83 points: Medium-gold colour with green tinges. Mineral-laden nose with lemon and plenty of Granny Smith apple - almost candied to the point of a sour apple Jolly Rancher. This follows through to the palate in which the wine is bone dry and almost overly acidic. Short finish, ~15s. Wine wine improves slightly as it warms, but this is still quite disappointing.

Having gone through several vintages of Huet's Le Haut-Lieu Sec, it seems like there is no consistency around the sweetness of this wine. Sec, as expected, is bone dry, but more recent vintages have been varying ranges of off-dry. Personally, I would stick with Demi-Sec and Moelleux, as the consistency and quality is significantly higher. (1843 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/27/2008 & rated 89 points: Very pure and young wine. Still locked. Green apple and citrus acidity. Terroir. Minerals. Excellent wine. (1741 views)
Tasted by winot on 9/22/2008 & rated 93 points: Med pale yellow-gold-lovely nose of MacIntosh apples, fresh green pears, cardamom, cinnamon/mace-great balance, wonderful fruit, mid-palate depth, long finish-this is fantastic wine-such depth and breadth w/o power, how nice!-delish (1681 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 9/13/2008: Moulin Touchais Pt. 2 @ Peter Z. (Belgium): Rounder, sexier in the nose than Le Mont Sec 04. But in the mouth this is very tight and unforgiving. Way to young. Riesling-like structure and acidity, lemon and elderberries. (1758 views)
Tasted by ColinR on 3/16/2007 & rated 92 points: Yellow gold; lemons, pears, minerals; citrusy, minerally, medium body, beautiful balance, good acidity, lingering finish.
A dry white with stunning balance of flavour, structure and acidity. Very nice with haddock. (2216 views)
Tasted by cousteau on 7/7/2006 & rated 86 points: Peaches and apricot on the nose, floral, and fruity. Quite smooth but a little fat on the mouth. The aromatics please the senses from begining to end but body and acidity are light and low. (2534 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 4/25/2006 & rated 90 points: Winery: Lite frt/flowers; hint nice clean Chenin; round, soft, quince, nice finish; very nice & balanced frt--good typicity. (626 views)
Tasted by futronic on 2/25/2006 & rated 86 points: Pale/clear with green tinges. Chalk, flink, sweet verbena, and white flower notes. Served way too warm, but does show some minerals. Short finish, 20s, with white fruit. (2562 views)
Tasted by futronic on 11/12/2005 & rated 88 points: Pale yellow colour. Lots of mineral and slate on the nose with lemon and apple. Medium-bodied, with lemon, mineral, apple, and seawater. Moderate finish, 30-35s, that follows from the palate. (2605 views)
Tasted by MBannon on 10/8/2005 & rated 92 points: Nice floral aroma. Good body, plenty of fruit, lots of acidity. This wine has lots of life. Drinks well now, but could easily cellar for several years. (3756 views)
