Mature, medium intensity nose. A hint of sweetness, medium(+) acidity, medium(+) finegrained tannins, medium(+) body. 15%. Red dried ripe fruit, a bit jammy, kernels. Dried herbs, garrigue. Very good length. Very nice.

mouth - rich dark berry, coffee, torrefactive, exactly like you'd want in a throat lossenge. a tad medicinal but not disqualifying. the fruit power here is undeniable. this wine is a feat and likely will be widely appreciated. hold. Powerful, gutsy, satisfying, velvety, mulberry-earth aromas, fennel, iodine.... Janasse. Dark & rich... full bodied... beautifully balanced in a way that Beaucastel Coudoulet only hopes to be....
This is a CdR that delivers CdP value. Happy that I went long on 2010, but wishing I did same on 05, 06, 07, 09, 15, 16.....

In the glass it says "Australian GSM" - or maybe often Australia wants to say "Rhône". Big, beefy, meaty stuff. Thick, dense and chewy. Lacking acidity and the tannins are too soft now. This hasn't aged so well, and is arguably unbalanced - verging on the soupy, in fact. What a shame... It was good 3-4 years into its life, now becoming flabby. Œil : Robe noire, profonde. De belles larmes assez épaisses s'écoulent le long du verre. Aucune trace d'évolution
Nez : sur les fruits noirs avec une prédominance sur le cassis, légèrement épicé.
Bouche : le vin emplit bien la bouche, c'est gourmand. On a une belle longueur avec une finale légèrement épicée avec une belle amertume. On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is the second largest appellation in the Rhône, only surpassed in size by Côtes-du-Rhône AOC. |
