Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 223 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Anna@WineCellar on 5/5/2024 & rated 91 points: Garnet with brick rim, medium intensity. Mature, medium intensity nose. A hint of sweetness, medium(+) acidity, medium(+) finegrained tannins, medium(+) body. 15%. Red dried ripe fruit, a bit jammy, kernels. Dried herbs, garrigue. Very good length. Very nice.
Day 2: Raisins, leather and rounded acidity.
1/3 each of grenache, syrah, mourvèdre. (68 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 4/27/2024 & rated 94 points: Confirming prior note (115 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 2/25/2024: nose- with time i sense a compote of dark berry. closed.
mouth - rich dark berry, coffee, torrefactive, exactly like you'd want in a throat lossenge. a tad medicinal but not disqualifying. the fruit power here is undeniable. this wine is a feat and likely will be widely appreciated. hold. (285 views)
Tasted by mazik on 9/18/2023 & rated 94 points: As before, just wonderful, pure pleasure in the glass. Absolutely at peak of perfection for a CdR. (417 views)
Tasted by mazik on 7/12/2023 & rated 94 points: Stupendous value at $13 (Acker auction). Like a CdP at CdR prices--and it looks as though it was sold on release at not much more than I paid for it.
But looking at the old reviews, I'm mystified, unless there was a lot of bottle variation--some people think it's over the hill, others that it's not ready to drink. It's certainly ripe and ready right now, still a lot of rich fruit overlying the spice and garrigue. (452 views)
Tasted by mazik on 7/12/2023 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured. Quintessence of cote de Rhône! Oldecorke had it down precisely: beautifully balanced. (417 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 7/7/2023 & rated 93 points: The bottle I had tonight exceeded my expectations! It was a symphony of color, aroma, and taste. Garrigue, dark, nicely resolved tannins, lingering acidity, long satisfying umami notes leaving me very happy. Very glad to have another bottle of this beautiful wine! (422 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 1/13/2023 & rated 94 points: Well... I could either be influenced by the preponderance of mediocre reviews or... I could just tell you the truth about the wine. It. Is. Stunning.

Powerful, gutsy, satisfying, velvety, mulberry-earth aromas, fennel, iodine.... Janasse. Dark & rich... full bodied... beautifully balanced in a way that Beaucastel Coudoulet only hopes to be....

This is a CdR that delivers CdP value. Happy that I went long on 2010, but wishing I did same on 05, 06, 07, 09, 15, 16.....

If you -can- get it.... -do- get it. (707 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 6/14/2021 & rated 91 points: This wine is probably peaking right now. Perfectly balanced, very savory, long, satisfying aftertaste. (1738 views)
Tasted by cannym on 3/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby. Plenty of berry fruits, red ones in particular now, cherry and redcurrant, herbs and spices. Significant alcohol but with a fine balance too. Good length. Tannins now mellow and everything has come together. Somehow fresher and finer now.VGV too. (1662 views)
Tasted by pmnilsson on 1/1/2021 & rated 90 points: Still great! Needs a bit of air. (1640 views)
Tasted by cannym on 11/6/2020 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby. Plenty of berry fruits, red ones in particular now, cherry and redcurrant, herbs and spices. Significant alcohol but with a fine balance too. Good length. Tannins now mellow and everything has come together. Somehow fresher and finer now.VGV too. (1664 views)
Tasted by cannym on 12/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby. Plenty of dark berry fruits, red ones too, cherry and redcurrant, herbs and spices. Significant alcohol but with a fine balance too. Good length. Tannins now much mellower and everything has come together. Possibly nearing its peak but still no rush. VGV too. (1962 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 9/12/2019 & rated 88 points: This wine ranked near the bottom of 8 in the Southern France wine tasting. I have to say that this wine did live up to expectations. There was something off-putting on the nose that carried into the finish on the palate. (1956 views)
Tasted by brubron on 5/21/2019: Such a nice, smooth wine! It’s still full of flavor and life. To me, it is at the top of its game right now. (1816 views)
Tasted by salarvcj on 5/3/2019: Continuing to develop and integrate, the tannins have blended in and are less astringent. Drinking very well, can be popped and poured, doesn’t need a long decant. Good length on the finish. (1683 views)
Tasted by vinole on 4/13/2019 & rated 91 points: PnP at a restaurant, ready to go at opening, no decanting required. Resolved tannins, rich, brambly dark fruit and medium plus body. Forward and crowd pleasing at this stage and punching above its class for CdR. (1800 views)
Tasted by fmoehl@yahoo.com on 3/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Held up well, still a great wine (1505 views)
Tasted by appel54 on 3/5/2019 & rated 90 points: Mörkröd färg

Njörnbär, svarta vinbär, brända fat, sötlakrits, tobak, vitpeppar

Torr, stram medium+ längd, strävt, mycket frukt kvar

Helt grymt vin för enbart 10 euro. (1346 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 11/21/2018 & rated 92 points: Awesome wine for $23. Drinking beautifully. Fresh and clean. Delicious. Provençal herbs, garrigue. Graphite. Earth. Fairly complex. I always felt this wine would be better with age. 8 years in thus is better than ever. This competes well with many, many CdPs. (1525 views)
Tasted by ricard on 9/27/2018 & rated 88 points: Have had the 2005 many times, as well as the 2010 - both classic vintages. In the glass it says "Australian GSM" - or maybe often Australia wants to say "Rhône". Big, beefy, meaty stuff. Thick, dense and chewy. Lacking acidity and the tannins are too soft now. This hasn't aged so well, and is arguably unbalanced - verging on the soupy, in fact. What a shame... It was good 3-4 years into its life, now becoming flabby. But some good fruit in there and still a certain amount of contained power. (1822 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 7/18/2018: Donated to CSHL course. (1905 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 6/3/2018 & rated 91 points: PnP. Still pretty large scaled, but the fruit here appears more subdued than how I remember the last bottle. As mentioned last time, the Syrah here definitely has a strong influence. Anise, Provençal herbs, garrigue, lavender. Has grip. Fairly harmonious. Long finish. (2081 views)
 Tasted by GAET on 5/27/2018 & rated 91 points: 1/3 syrah, 1/3 mourvèdre, 1/3 grenache , 15°
(2010 views)
Tasted by cannym on 4/29/2018 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby, purple froth. Plenty of dark berry fruits, red ones too, cherry and redcurrant, herbs and spices. Significant alcohol but with a fine balance too. Not quite fresh but good acidity and lively. Good length. Ready but no rush. VGV too. Great with venison steak. (1881 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

Côtes du Rhône Villages

Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is a French wine Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) in the southern Rhône wine region of France. Red, white and rosé wine are all produced within the appellation. The quality is superior to the generic Côtes-du-Rhône AOC, but below more specific appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC and Vacqueyras AOC. Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is the second largest appellation in the Rhône, only surpassed in size by Côtes-du-Rhône AOC.
